  1. There's a program out on the torrent sites that is very good. If anything I'm an excel wizard now because of it. You'l never click and drag again. Plus you'll learn to love the magic that is Alt + E, S, V.
  2. We didn't even have a Stanley Cup thread! That'd just be a bunch of Habs fans cheering and the other teams sad that they didn't make the playoffs.

They are ALL projected to have $100k+ in student loan debt FOR UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES! One of these persons is going to University of Texas, and two others are going to lesser known skewls. So the person is paying 'in state' tuition to go to UT and is going to have 100k in debt? I find that hard to believe. My guess is the person paying out of state tuition, which is their decision. There aren't any good schools in their own state? Sounds like a poor decision on their part.
  4. Given the concentration of engineers, I'd be interested to see what everyone's Myers-Briggs results. I'm willing to bet we have a majority of introvert thinkers.
  5. The Richest Man in Babylon and Letters from a Self-made merchant to his Son
  6. Pretty good book, I'm just a few chapters in but I noticed the beginning echoes a lot of the key points in Fifer's Double Your Profits.
  7. I've seen it firsthand at my company. It's owned by private equity, so maybe they don't care as much (but they sure do put the screws to everything else). But we've paid out to the CEO the yearly dues for his centurion card, for his wife to decorate the office for holidays and go shopping to buy new office decor, and even pay for his dog sitter when he and his wife went on a trip to Asia, first class accommodations paid by the company of course.

not too surprising to me. People always have to have the latest thing and accumulate so much stuff they can't park inside their garage.
  9. talk about bizarro world...doesn't do much for FIGJAM's squeaky clean image.
  10. It's really all about the new TV deal, the current one expires in 2016. Clippers currently get $25 mm a season, in comparison the Lakers have a deal of $3 billion over 20 years (or $150 mm a season). The Dodgers earlier this year got $8.35 billion over 25 years (also the team sold for a cool $2.1 billion) Sure he probably overpaid, but probably not by too much.
  11. orange is an ugly color.
  12. Probably spent it all on his almond farms.
  13. Yeah kind of a passive-aggressive way of dealing with it. I wonder how it was decided he was going to be on TV then, just coincidence?
  14. fantastic book. glad you picked it up.
  15. he taught me how to love a woman - and how to scold a child
  16. ditto, I thought it was a flash crash when I saw it drop 5%.
  17. Also amazing that none of the flights were sold out either.
  18. But to be fair, Coach O is a cartoon character.
  19. Yeah that's my strategy. Good if you are looking to retire early.
  20. Air traffic controller also can do this, my Dad retired at 50. Mandatory retirement for these guys is in their mid 50s. You want them hanging around longer? My guess is that locality pay plays a factor in Mr. retired cop getting 97k.
  21. Thanks. What brokerage is ELFCU's HSA using? And you can buy individual stocks? TDAmeritrade, yes.
  22. So far so good with ELFCU.
  23. Foundation of Dave Ramsey with a shot of early retirement extreme. Don't eat out, live close to work, etc. Current problem is trying to figure of if it's time to replace my 175k mile 16 year old SUV that needs some TLC with a Scion/Honda Fit or keep driving it into the ground and hope to get another 25k out of her. Pay for experiences, not things.
