But most Americans agree they have had enough of fentanyl deaths, child sex trafficking, crime, open borders - especially with Mexico. Why would they care about the WSJ - a leftist rag.

There will be pain, but there will be safety. US capitalism makes amazingly quick adjustments.

The WSJ is leftist rag? Huh, that’s an interesting statement.

Of course most Americans would agree with your first sentence. So tariffs are your solution to all of these issues?

A pop quiz - I like that - Canada??

Go ahead - predict the demise of the US.  Capitalism adjusts period.

And what happens when you piss off your biggest customers? In the last few days I have never seen anything even remotely like the number of ads featuring Canadian products telling us we don't need to buy American.

Then too, what happens if Canada decides to reduce the oil your refineries are so dependent on, and, should we so choose, dim your lights in all those Northern U.S. cities using Canadian electricity to heat their homes.

PS. Fentanyl seizures from Canada was measured in pounds while from Mexico is measured in tons.

And when you look at numbers of illegals crossing from Canada to the US be sure to subtract the number coming from the US into Canada.

Of course! It gives tremendous leverage over a narco state like Mexico. I'd say it's the ONLY way to deal with a corrupt government like Mexico.

Just look at Columbia - they folded like a cheap suit.

The WSJ is owned and run by Rupert Murdoch. Hardly a leftist rag.  If you think a trade war is going to reduce fentanyl, you have been sold a bill of goods. What does it have to do with Canada or the EU?

This is 100% a political move (to what end, nobody can seem to tell) that will be paid for by Americans.

It's 100% a leftist rag. They've always hated the current President - who are you kidding?

The Narco state of Mexico can shut down the fentanyl trade when they get hurt enough.

The cartels control the President of Mexico. When remittances and trade profits dry up - you bet she will close that border faster than a speeding bullet. Just like in 2017-2020.

Damn, Cubby, you’ve got it all figured out! Must be exhausting😅

Can you explain why President Trumps first round of tariffs in 2018 had no effect on Fentanyl deaths?

Also, you spelled Colombia wrong, just like the Executive Order. Not that you care😅

^^^ You've got it figured out all right.

No one said it was going to be easy - so you just throw in the towel?

Is that what you do?

Just give up?

Curious why you didn't post the illegal immigration and exploding crime stats??

Perhaps, because they were off the charts??

How convenient @Buckeye

Our country has needed to solve the trade deficit for a long time.

By being left unaddressed for 30+ years, we've essentially given away our nation's wealth. This is reflected in our country's net investment position, which is currently sitting at an all-time low of approximately -$23.6 trillion (International Investment Position).

However, Trump's current plans are not how you correctly solve this problem. Starting trade wars with allies whose net deficit with you is very close to zero is stupid. Implementing tariffs on two countries that deliver you a quarter of your total oil consumption is stupid. Exempting individual companies from tariffs, such as Apple, just because the CEO will come to Mar-a-Lago and lick your nuts is stupid.

The only applicable solution I've ever seen offered was of course written by Warren Buffett in 2003: Warren Buffett: Here’s How I Would Solve the Trade Problem. The fact that Congress has never taken the time to really listen to this man is astounding to me, and the citizenry of our country are the ones who will have to pay for it in the future.

Cheers?!

If you actually think the WSJ is leftist, you have been brainwashed by Newsmax (not Fox.because that's also owned by the "leftie" Rupert Murdoch).

What does any of this have to do with Canada and the EU where the US is a source of drugs not a destination?

Perhaps you could post those stats, since you are familiar with them?  Interested to see those (and the source)

Who said throw in the towel? Who’s saying give up? I guess you did?

I didn’t post other graphs because I posted the first one I found. Sorry Cubs. Nothing convenient, just thought I’d focus on fentanyl since that seems be one of your biggest concerns. So any thoughts on why the first Trump tariff’s didn’t do shit for bringing down fentanyl deaths?

Obviously you don't think there is a problem.

There is $108B trade deficit with Mexico. There are 10-12 million illegals aliens that entered

through the Biden term. ICE is rounding up criminals like crazy that Biden let in. Murderers, rapists, child sex felons, etc.   There are 300K missing children unaccounted for (Myorkas says lost) during this term - many are child sex trafficking victims. Illegal aliens/residents send Mexico $60B a year back to Mexico.  So Mexico is having a field day to the tune of around $170B while they empty their jails and export their poor to the USA. It keeps the Mexican government in power.  What a wonderful relationship!

It's quite a safety valve for a corrupt government - just like Columbia, El Salvador, Venezuela

I find it so interesting that this board thinks the US President should sit by like some kind of

patsy or sucker like Joe Biden.

Why in the world do you think this guy was elected??

I think what’s Canada specifically needs to do is, push ahead with NAFTA ex US and conclude a free trade zone with the Mexico, EU and the UK and perhaps others like Australia that want to participate. I think the EU is open to it and adding Canada energy resources ought to be welcome additions to the EU free trade zone.

That assumes that some of the climate change goals or the way they are implement need to be revised. However, even without the energy part, a free trade agreement between and Canada/Mexico will be beneficial.

Canada needs to develop the infrastructure to export to both the east and west coast where it is needed - the equivalent of the Trans Canada highway but with pipes, harbor facilities.

This could actually quite become a real transformative infrastructure project for Canada. yes, it will take years to undo the US tries,  it all the more reason to start sooner rather than later imo.

It takes a political with some vision to execute though. What do I know, I am not a Canadian, but if I were, that’s what I would do or at least vote for. Doesn’t even matter if Trump goes ahead with the tariffs or pulls the rug last minute. This ought to be a wake up call that too much dependency is never a good

East and west coast facilities already exist, along with rail. The limitation is capacity, and how/where it is expanded.

New pipe is safer than twinning the rail lines, and both are nation building mega projects. St John is a deep water port and already services Hibernia. Churchill is similar, exports grain out of the west, and upgraded rail would really help. Montreal is well placed to receive refined product, and already processes Saudi cargoes.

Domesric Victory Bonds were used to finance WWII; all of this could be financed in a very similar way, and Canada has the expertise.

Would this have ever been floated were there no threat to everyone? Highly unlikely. Orange Boy is doing us all a favor.

Guess what @Blake Hampton Silicon Valley CEOs, Jamie Dimon and a whole lot of CEOs are lining up behind this guy. Actions speak louder than words. The animal spirits in America are being unleashed.  It won't take long for the US to be energy independent. Its truly a historic time.

Like all the whining with the NATO countries - they bitched and moaned and Europe/NATO is much stronger because of this President.

This is just the man to solve the trade deficit.

Having a problem is an easy acknowledgement.  Imposing tariffs as a solution is just stupid.

Illegal immigration has always been a problem. For hundreds of years. And always will be for a developed country.  That's not the question.

So, you're saying you don't actually have any stats supporting your position?
