whatstheofficerproblem Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Looks like the record was made on the first 6-10 years where they 10x'd and the remainder 20 years were mediocre. Goes to show how much a few homeruns can impact overall performance.
Luke Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Id like to know the performance of Himalaya Capital. I think this is one of the best funds out there. I know there are members on this board who have deeper insights on this or material so if you want to share please do!

I don't know if it is 26% or 30% or what it is exactly but it is in that ballpark
whatstheofficerproblem Posted January 26 Posted January 26 The worst part about Himalaya is that their office is in Seattle. I would find it very hard to perform in that state.

I stepped away from a job at Amazon for this reason. I would have ended it if I was in Seattle. I need the sun, and a shit ton of it. Maybe Arizona spoiled me. She certainly started at a good time (like the UK fund manager Peter Spiller who started in 1982 and is still going). I think it's a good lesson on the difficulty in picking funds - it's easy to be dazzled by stunning performance and then gradually find it the best has been and gone. However you could also argue that while she started at a good time, her last 10 years were a terrible time - the ASEAN & HK small-cap space she tended to focus on has been BRUTAL for so long now.

But between Arizona and Seattle, one definitely has more sun.

The desert terrain, the plateaus, mesas & the purple hue of evening sky. Sometimes makes me wonder if that is what Mars looks like.

villainx Posted January 26 Posted January 26 Have to head to that area more. Was in New Mexico a couple of years ago. Wonderful landscape there.

This2ShallPass Posted January 27 Posted January 27 What are some of the best funds and younger managers currently?
gfp Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I don't know about "best" but I enjoy following Fairlight Capital and they are assembling a good track record so far (fairly short period since inception) https://www.fairlightcapital.com/_files/ugd/a6cb30_2c6c31e59e024979a84cb039ac66819d.pdf
Masterofnone Posted January 27 Posted January 27 What is a "Best Fund" anyway. I pay people to do things for me when they can do things better or more quickly than I can myself. I'll do my own plumbing repair or fix the mini-split but won't climb a 40 ft. ladder to re-stain the house. I've found that micro-cap investing is really hard. I pay Tim Eriksen to do it for me and he's done a fine job. For most of my investing life the bulk of the work was "hired out" (for free) to WEB. (I'd guess many here also are wondering just what to do now that their go-to investment handyman has retired). Is there a list of funds that have out-performed after fees over a 5, 10, 15 and 20 year period? If there are any, I'd be interested.

Thanks!
dwy000 Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Timely article. Especially for the Canadians in the crowd. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2026-01-27/hedge-fund-lucida-capital-beats-bay-street-with-65-return
