How do you get the Chinese gold reserve numbers ? I though the discussion on Gold was over after WWII and National Productivity (GDP) was what is important in terms of wealth. (How dose Gold relate to GDP?) For power it is in terms of Military might. For the Chinese yuan to become the reserve currency it needs a far larger military than what we have today. And base on its food production and high population it dose not have the power for war. I mean the reason we believe in the dollar is because it still controls the world through military might and controls the resources. Those who oppose the US control would end up like Muammar Gaddafi. Also i don't think China Wants the world. Why? The Chinese elite have been using it hierarchical structure and living off the abundant labor of the large masses for 5000 years. Why would that Change ? Whats the point of having military bases everywhere ? There is no difference in the ruling class will live and China has many of it own problems. For example like how they have to grow GDP no matter what to bring employment to the people or there will be revolution. How they have no other way to grow GDP other than build more useless buildings. How the environment has been badly destroyed. How inefficient their capital is being allocated by the officials in the SOE. How all their smart people are living China for the US and how most their students do learn anything in University. (most of the professors lack education and the smart people lack ways for advancement. ) What is happening is temporary i think i US will regress back to the mean. China will some political problems in the comings years and the problems will hopefully solved. China also has one big problem which is the aging population. How is China suppose to rule with all that old people? http://china.usc.edu/ShowArticle.aspx?articleID=1477

Cracker Barrel Cracks Whip In Biglari Holdings Proxy Fight
Green King replied to Parsad's topic in General Discussion
Capital restraints... It's a lot easier for Biglari to do 20% a year than for Buffett to do so. Granted there are a lot of different variables here. Price to value being the main one. And, this is coming from a guy who doesn't own a single share of BH (but, I used to). Correct me if i am wrong. But he his actions doesn't look like the what a young Buffett would do. This doesn't look like its going to be like the next BRK. I looks like he is trying build a giant conglomerate. where he is going to make money through getting paid from running and controlling it. -

Occupy Oakland protesters shut port, disrupt banks
Green King replied to Ben Graham's topic in General Discussion
Its not about sides. Its about size of the protest. If i was small group and they try to shut down key capital infrastructure they would be broken down. But the numbers are too great nothing can be done in terms of violence first because this is america land of the free and second you do want all the population to become hostile. Just like back in the Civil War where small military revolt or rebellion where violently destroyed and large ones and paid off by meeting their demands. I don`t think the tea party people would do such a thing as impairing capital infrastructure. Since they are funded by business and what not. (Koch Brothers) Note Talking in terms tactical maneuver. -
Where is this from. I would like to read whatever article this is attached to. Greece has everyone by the balls, but that doesnt mean things are peachy for them. My guess is there will be hell to pay if the continue screwing with the markets / euro. They have been in default for 160 out of the last 200 years, but being broke and shunned by the world really sucks once you have had a taste of the rich life. I was enjoying the rally.... http://beginnersinvest.about.com/gi/o.htm?zi=1/XJ&zTi=1&sdn=beginnersinvest&cdn=money&tm=4&f=10&su=p284.12.336.ip_&tt=2&bt=0&bts=0&zu=http%3A//www.berkshirehathaway.com/letters/1985.html Buffett's Letter 1985 to Shareholders It is used when he talks about the shutdown of the textile Business

"I always thought myself in the position described by Woody Allen in one of his movies: ―More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness, the other to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly." Warren E Buffet 1985

This shows the extreme income inequality in american its not the top 1% but more like the 1/1000 the of one percent that control most of the wealth n power. (due to our tax structure and basic structure of our brand of capitalism.) Hey WM and IB serve a role allocation of capital which is the key for a capitalist society. The problems are the gambling, the bad incentive structure, idea of there is a short cut in life etc. (without good capital allocation we would have something like China where each official build for their own gain and not for long term gain and where all the loss )distributed to the people of China and the system as an whole.) WM and IB should be paid based on their long term performance where they get paid enough to live on and the rest would come for long term gain. In terms of 10, 20, 30 years, American business has become to short sighted.

Maybe a little too materialistic
Green King replied to OracleofCarolina's topic in General Discussion
They are just people that got lucky. No one who deserve the money would have taken out a loan for a luxury like that house there. "During a depression, assets return to their rightful owners" ;D -

Thank You for your response Parsad I guess i always thought BRK with its prudent management would survive. Well this make sense as it explained the double speak Charlie Munger has been using in his interviews after the crisis. Talking about the problems of the society than when ask completely support Tim Geithner and others for bailing them out. On the other hand wouldn't this buy a house and get a visa idea allow the corrupt politicians clean their money and be protected by the US government ?
-
Would you have preferred Bernanke, Paulson and Geithner just minded their own business and let BAC, JPM, GS, GE, eventually WFC, BRK and most other leveraged financial institutions fail in 2008? Government can work, as long as they don't cater to special interests and actually have the country's best interest at heart. Cheers! What where the chances of BRK failing if the government didn't bail out the banks ? How attached was BRK to the rest of the system ?
