Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting 2025
Buckeye replied to good-investing's topic in Berkshire Hathaway
Yea probably could be chalked up to his surprise by the news and sadness about himself stepping aside. He mentioned having 2 of the most incredible mentors for the past 50+ years and now it’s all winding down for them. It’s sad. Three total studs. I was pretty sad to hear Warren announce his retirement. What an incredible run and what an honorable way to hand the reigns to the new jockey. -
Berkshire Hathaway Annual Meeting 2025

I saw that and thought the same thing. He also seemed a little shocked after having just learned of the news on his way over to the interview. I thought he gave a great interview after just hearing the news. He mentioned that he met Charlie in 1967 and Warren in 1969 and the three of them have been friends/partners for life. What a trio. It was a little sad and sweet. -
A BTC investor telling a BRK investor…”Good luck living off the dividends” Thankfully with BRK you don’t need luck.

I’m hoping we can bring “fag” back by the midterms! I’ve been missing that one from the 3rd grade! And if so, those libtards will never win another election!
-
Forgot to add that we can say “retard” now too!! MAGA!

Sort of like a whole group of people voting for a guy who doesn’t even know, or care, that they exist, while expecting him to make them great again

A weaker dollar also makes US exports cheaper for the importing countries correct? And if correct, then the fact that the US imports much more than it exports would/could be a net negative for the US?
-
LOL. The rewriting of history has begun

I first started buying around 2009 ish? It was after the announcement of the B share split for the BNSF acquisition, but before it split. If I remember correctly, the stock didn’t move much on the news and I thought the split would open the stock up to more investors. Turns out a mis-guided investment thesis in a good investment still turns out well! I have bought BRK every year since 2009, except for this year (so far). Anytime I had extra money to invest, with no obvious candidate, I’d dump it into BRK and forget about it. It’s also looking like FRFHF has become my new holding to send any extra funds. Interesting side note…my cousin graduated college that same time I started buying BRK and so for his graduation gift, I gave him a letter that said something to the effect of “This certificate is good for one share of BRKB, to be redeemed anytime.” I think at the time the share price was around $66.00 (post split)? The stock is now @ $500/share and I am still holding it for him Every year at our family’s Christmas I’ll say, “Do you want me to keep holding? And he’ll say “Yep!” He doesn’t know this yet, but I am planning on cashing him out when the stock hits $1000, mostly because I don’t want to have to write a check much bigger than that. Ha! It’s been a fun little experiment and I am hopeful that he’ll reinvest the proceeds back into BRK.

Thank you for sharing your opinion Cubs.

Sounds great Red, thanks! For sure those are some good issues to support and like you I am very hopeful that Trump can follow through on some of those things! If he succeeds we all succeed.

Hey T, I was having this same issue last night looking for a thread on Eaton. When I searched ETN, it retuned no results. I did search the full name and found it in a couple of mentions but never found an ETN thread

So how do you see the next 4 years playing out?
-
Can any of the resident Trump experts on this thread, please explain to us losers, who don’t get it, their opinion of how things will play out under 4 years of President Trump? It seems to me that anyone who posts a message questioning Trump’s logic or actions is quickly lambasted as “not getting it.” And anytime someone posts a prediction about the future under Trump, their thoughts are quickly discounted as complete rubbish by the experts. Everything seems so clear to his supporters, especially with their hindsight bias. But what I rarely see is anyone of his supporters who are willing to actually predict what they think will happen over the next 4 years. Please help me (us) understand how you think the next 4 years will go down. Thanks!

Didn’t oil go to zero, or negative, during the start of the pandemic? Or was it the futures that went negative, with the spot pricing dropping to $11? From the link below In April, an oversupply of oil led to an unprecedented collapse in oil prices, forcing the contract futures price for West Texas Intermediate (WTI) to plummet from $18 a barrel to around -$37 a barrel. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/100615/will-oil-prices-go-2017.asp#:~:text=The May 2020 futures contract, that was suddenly massively oversupplied.

A couple more days, or weeks, like this and the phone may start ringing in Omaha!
-
Yea, that wasn't a judgment call, just pointing out that it's already been hammered 20%.
-
It’s also already down @ 20% from its ATH.
-
Hahahaha…yes! I love this picThank you Woodman! Also, great interpretations on mofo. I was using it in its slang term (sorry for being a little off-color) and directing it towards “Mr. Market.” Go get em dudes.

BRK is @ 30% of my portfolio and I intend to never sell. Having said that, this is exactly the time that I want to own a stock like Berkshire. So maybe it’s fully valued, so what?! I don’t believe that, but even if I did, I’m a partner and I’m not cutting out on Warren like that, just because Mr. Market’s getting excited about our future. You’ve got one of the greatest capital allocators of all time, with over 300B in cash, at the helm of an aircraft carrier, heading into what may be some choppy waters ahead. I envision Warren rolling out his maps and getting out his wooden pointer, surrounded at the table by Greg, Ajit, Ted and Todd. Bring it on mofos.

For sure some of this front running is/has been happening. So maybe it’s a one time gap up and then we stabilize? Or maybe prices come back a little once some of the dust settles? Will certainly be interesting to see. At least now that we’re finally into it, any de-escalation of the tariffs would be celebrated as a huge win by the markets, so that’s one potential positive.
-
Hopefully any negative impacts will be short term and not too severe. And very interesting to hear about the potential lab in Canada. MCGA!

I’m interested to know if any of the tariff experts on this thread have any actual experience with tariffs? Is anyone here manufacturing anything in the US? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts. I currently own a small manufacturing company that makes laboratory equipment in the good ol USA. Everything is machined in Pennsylvania by a second generation machine shop…can’t get more MAGA than that! Today I was talking to my machinist about an upcoming order and he seemed a little distraught. Apparently the 4” OD 316 Stainless steel tube that we’ve buying for the past 3 years or so for about $330 a foot now costs $550 a foot. Huh, that’s interesting. An increase of 66%. So a 20’ section that used to cost us $6.5k now runs about $11k. The other kicker is that what usually was fairly easy sourced on the east coast is now only available in Texas? I’m not looking forward to the cost to ship a 20’ section of tube from TX to PA. Ugh. I guess I can keep my prices the same and eat the additional cost or I can raise my prices? I’m not here to complain, only to point out that things are getting a little weird out there for some manufacturers. I can only imagine what all of the factories and other industries that rely on this steel may be feeling right now. People who definitively claim that tariffs don’t cause inflation are either are misinformed or dishonest. Maybe tariffs don’t directly cause inflation, but people’s reaction to tariffs, or people’s anticipation of tariffs may lead to some inflation. if this is what’s got to happen to “make us great again” I’m all for sacrificing for the greater good. But I’d feel better about the process if it seemed like there was some more thought put into the implementation.

Seems like that MANDATE that we’ve been hearing so much about is already beginning to show some cracks

So if you weren’t defending Biden for every BS accusation, then you shouldn’t be defending Trump for every BS accusation now? Is that the extrapolation?
