I dont need to present data to ask for data! The person making the claim should be able to support the claim. You cant prove a negative. What youre talking about is anecdotal experience and cant be extrapolated. Making unsupported statements as fact and then challenging people who question it seems to be the new go to. If you cant waste time getting actual data that supports the statement it undermines everything that you say. Its the difference between guesses and knowledge

Thats kind of a stretch to get to Trump winning the Italian vote by a large margin.
-
There was definitely a plan. Someone left it on the printer at the hotel.
-
How do you know Trump carried the Italian vote (by a large margin)? Where are you getting nationwide ethnic voting details? Any idea how theyre defining "Italian"? Curious because id love to see this data for other countries.

Koch and Dinkins and DeBlasio were all strongly left leaning politicians. It swings back and forth. And probably always will. Bloomberg raised taxes in NY by probably more than any mayor and the city managed thru it.
-
This is very standard for NYC. Every 3rd or 4th mayor they go extreme. Ed Koch, David Dinkins. And then they swing back the other way. The overswing in both directions is the natural course of politics at most levels.

Thanks, that's awesome insight. If i can sum up - its all over the place. Theres softening in some areas, hardening in others and then there's property inflation underneath all that plus carriers with varying objectives (price vs cash flow). The podcast you highlighted was pretty interesting when talking about insuring cyber and he suggested they were struggling to price it properly so its interesting that you mention softness in that market. Thanks for the insights.

Ive tried to reiterate many times that the "cult" status reflects the refusal or inability to independently support a position and solely taking it because the leader tells you to. I'm happy to discuss issues and ideology all day long, but if there's no basis for the position except Trump wants it, then its not a discussion worth having because one side is just a conduit.
-
@longterminvestor just curious what youre seeing out in the field right now. A couple of the brokers have spoken about the market finally starting to soften but then you get Willis and others doing just fine and seeming to suggest things are still quite strong. Is it company or industry or geographic specific or are you seeing a broader softening (in either price or terms)? Thx for the insight.
-
I completely agree with this. But when you call people morons and idiots and losers it turns from an ideological discussion to a personal one. And then everything goes to crap because now its personal.
-
In fact this is part of a larger argument. I actually think you make a ton of great points and arguments and broader thinking (and ive like a couple of the stock suggestions). But then you bury it in rhetoric of "those morons" and hateful comments such that the great points get buried or are more divisive because youre suggesting people with differing opinions are morons and idiots.
-
Ive never once had an issue with these points. We are actually in agreement about dumb tax and other policies in NYC. I had an issue with using incorrect information and shitting on people to make the point that the policies are dumb.
-
Oh I think a lot of the tax and social issues are stupid and probably harmful. They will self correct over the years. But the moneyed sorts leaving has always been the case for NYC. Its where young people go to make it and then when you get older and richer you leave.
-
As Ive said, NYC has a lot of issues! A lot. As you would expect of the largest city in the country. Or anywhere to be honest. But crime is down and the population is up regardless of what issues you have with a place you neither live or want to visit. Obviously there are millions who disagree. And the actual troll tactic is to post incorrect comments like they are fact and then blame people who ask you to support the very fact you claimed! Very Trumpian.
-
What party line? You made claims that were incorrect and i simply pointed that out. No party line. You were the one making claims about population segments leaving, not me. I just asked for the supporting data because it sounds very random and not self evident at all. NYC's demise lines up with your claims about inflation - always about to happen but never actually does. I just find it interesting that almost every post of yours has to shit on something or someone or some generic "they". Why not just make the point for discussion and leave it at that?
-
So, no data then? Of course there's issues, as there are in every city in the country. And every town and rural area. But why are you spending time shitting on a place that you dont live, nobody is making you visit and that clearly millions of people love?
-
Do you have data on that? Because increasing rents (from what were already some of the highest in the country) would suggest its not the case. Its easy to shit on any city in the country (or any place really). But what point are you trying to make? The city is growing. Crime is down. If you dont like the city, dont visit.
-
Population (counted the same way for years) is increasing. https://www.nyc.gov/assets/planning/downloads/pdf/our-work/reports/new-york-city-population-estimates-and-trends_may-2025.pdf Just because you hate NYC doesn't mean any of the things you are claiming are true. Population is up and crime is down. If you don't like it, dont go there but making things up doesnt help.
-
Crime in NYC has been dropping consistently and its one of the safest large cities in the country. And population has actually been growing which is why rents continue to be through the roof.

How can I accept answers i dont like when you wont give an answer???? You keep saying you already did but you didnt. The only thing you've said is repeating the party line "to.stop other countries from taking advantage of us". You never say how theyre doing that.or how the current policy fixes that. Ive asked the question on the UK and Brazil like 6x now and never an answer. I'm not saying youre in a cult because you disagree with me. I'm saying youre in a cult because you cant explain why you disagree me. And youre doing it, seemingly, because that's what Dear Leader is telling you. If you have your own independent thoughts about why the tariffs make sense then answering the question should be easy.
-
Well I kinda prefer to discuss the issues than pretend I'm autistic to avoid them. I'm sure he's a very good driver too.
-
Yes. I ask you to answer. You avoid, deflect and dont. And then claim its my fault. Please explain how a 15% tariff on the UK and a 50% tariff on Brazil, where the US has a trade surplus with both countries, is putting America first and benefiting us?
-
So once again you avoid answering the question. If you support anything Trump says or does without even being able to explain why....youre in a cult.
-
The rest of the world is gonna do what theyre gonna do. We can put selective tariffs on products to try and address selective protectionism by other countries but there isnt a single country in the world that had blanket tariffs on the US. The US economy has grown massively by reducing tariffs and entering into free trade agmts with our major partners. Theres always going to be disputes and issues but boy has that served us well in the global economy for decades. Now we are actively encouraging global partners to diversify trading relationships and increase non-US activity. Now instead of avoiding the question maybe you can answer it. How is the current trade debacle helping improve lives for Americans? Maybe start with the UK and Brazil where we have (had) trade surpluses and then get to the ratiinale for 39% on Switzerland (huh?). Or the 15% on Japanese cars but 50% on steel to make cars in the US.
-
And precisely why I say even when the policy issue is something I agree with he fucks it up royally thru lack of strategy and incompetent execution. How is charging American consumers hundreds of $bns of taxes putting America first? Curious, why do you think what Trump is doing with tariffs is good? I get that you immediately support anything he says but why is what he's doing here good for Americans?
