Because if you are truly concerned about it, requiring an ID at a polling station is very unlikely to be the solution to it. Large scale voting fraud sufficient to shift results isnt going to be one offs showing up at polling stations. And even more unlikely to be driven by illegal immigrants - which, after all, is the whole argument that thos was about. Certainly having ICE roaming around polling stations isnt going to help.
-
Because there's no large scale voter fraud. So you're taking on a problem that doesnt exist. In fact if all those swing states went for Trump, what's the problem? If everyone loves Trump and his policies you should be freeing up the electorate, reducing all barriers to voting and making it as simple and open as possible. The fact that youre doing the opposite suggests a fear of voters voting freely.

?? I was literally agreeing with Greg on something and now youre complaining about that? And none of that discussion on my side was even intended to be about Democrats. The whole lost point was that Trump policies are more socialist than traditional Republican.
-
And? That was in reference to the 90's Ddemocrats that Greg commented on. And completely diverted/missed the entire discussion point which is Trump pushing more socialist policies instead of Republican ones.
-
The discussion wasnt so much around what ID is needed to vote given the lack of voter fraud. It was the requirement to carry your passport with you (not just DL or similarly ID) because ICE is hanging around polling stations for some reason.
-
My point had nothing to do with the Democrats at all. It was a comment on Trump's Republicans.
-
Why always back away when asked to rationalize your support? "Ask more nicely" "Stop calling it a cult". Thats exactly why I call it a cult. If you cant give your independent rationale for something but support it because Trump says so...cult.

Other than India, which ones? What is the end game with the tariffs, especially if as you say, they are temporary?
-
So other than India, you oppose the tariffs?
-
Yes the democrats have moved to the right. Nobody is saying otherwise. And as a former Republican voter I think that's a good thing. My point is the opposite. That the Republicans (well, not republicans, mostly the cult) have gone the opposite direction and become more socialist. Trade barriers. Forced stakes in US companies. Federal military on the streets. Reagan would be rolling over in his grave. Yet you guys cheer, not because it makes sense but because its Trump. Thata a cult.
-
Now do the UK. And Brazil. And Switzerland. And Canada.
-
How is this equal trade? What logical sense does 50% tariffs on India make? How does that benefit Americans? How do tariffs on the UK and Brazil, where we have a trade surplus benefit Americans or make any logical sense. The real irony is that tariffs and trade barriers were old Democrat policies. The Republicans were the pro business party that pushed for free trade. But now that Trump is the one pushing it youre all in because....the deal leader has said so. Cult.

Jefferies. Not even close.
-
Completely agree. I think this started though from your question about why he would say that. But yup, that's a good point.
-
I care. Hence the posts. A whole ton of the country cares which is why he's polling at record lows.
-
Not true. I fully support a lot of the concepts he promotes. What i have issue with is him doing it in such an incompetent way that it has the complete opposite effect. I support increased efficiency. Instead DOGE screwed up entire departments, had to re-hire fired employees, and ended up costing money. I support reducing the deficit. Instead we got the opposite. I support making it easier for businesses to operate efficiently. Instead we got the most incompetent tariff roll out you could imagine. I support ending the war in Ukraine. Instead we get Trump sucking up to Putin. I support the release of the Epstein files. Instead we get massive cover up and refusal to release.

What on earth does that have to do with sending the National Guard into cities who dont want them there?
-
Well that's the citizens of that city and their mayors and governors to deal with. Its not for the federal government to unilaterally and over the objections of all those people to decide.
-
Okay. Then why have ICE at polling stations? Its not about voting fraud or arresting illegal immigrants.
-
Nobody is opposed to cracking down on crime. But that's not the goal. If it was you would go to the highest crime cities. And you would have done it during the first term whe. Crime rates were way higher. Its not about the crime. Its theater.
-
And again....then why not deploy the National Guard to cities with the highest crime rates? Top 3 are Jackson, Memphis and St. Louis. Because its not meant to address crime, its just a show.
-
That's because almost all cities are more left leaning than rural areas. Duh. The whole point is that there were no imposition of the National Guard during his previous administration or when crime rates were much higher, so why now? And why not in red cities with higher crime rates? We all know why! Because its not law enforcement reasons its theater for the news.
-
We dont need to carry our passport anywhere and generally nobody does (in fact less than 50% of Americans even have a passport). We have our DL or other ID usually (but not always). Taking your passport, not to vote but because ICE is hanging around polling stations, is just plain intimidation. If you have to actively try and make it harder for the general population to vote in order to win maybe youre focused on the wrong things.
-
It would be less likely in red states because the point of it is not to arrest illegals it is to intimidate. Just look at the National Guard theater. Theres no suggestion of deploying them in red states where crime rates are higher than the areas they are being deployed (despite the lowest crime rates there in years). None of this is about law enforcement. Its about theater and intimidation. And carrying ID is one thing. Proving your citizenship to ICE at a polling station is another. Who carries their passport with them?
-
To be honest if it drives people to vote by mail it's probably not the worst thing.
