  1. I'm with TD and the site won't let me remember my user name. If I try to click on the "remember me" box, it fails to log me in. It's a security feature I'm told. Firefox 5 is my main with Chrome as my other browser. The only reason I haven't completely moved to Chrome is they don't have a drop down address bar for my 10 most visited sites like Firefox has. Their developers have said users don't find that function important in spite of the outcry from die hard Chrome users in the Google forums. As for IE, always keep it installed. There are still some Microsoft/Windows downloads that need IE.
  2. Seems like an appropriate thread for this blog I found, http://brokershandsontheirfacesblog.tumblr.com/ They're obviously not value investors. ;D
  3. Like this? http://online.barrons.com/public/page/9_0210-indexespeyields.html
  4. We may need a definition of a first rate politician to put that into perspective. ;D
  5. Bump. Still waiting for an answer to Ballinvarosig's question.
  6. Nice, thanks for your link. :)
  7. I'd also like to know about Irving Kahn's checklist and any other sources.
  8. Aren't they the only, or first and dominant maker of RFID chips?
  9. I was reminded this week about Simpson Manufacturing (SSD). They're the only team in the building tie industry (I build custom homes for a living and Simpson is the only name on the shelves). Of course it's market cap is 1.4 B. But a dominant small-mid cap player none the less.
  10. This is the only forum that I've been a member of that I haven't wanted to ignore anyone.
  11. I'm all for that, but that will only happen if/when they balance the budget, sometime after 2015 according to them. By then, most Canadians will have forgotten about that promise anyway.
  12. Did the boss tell them which way to vote? Maybe their "boss" is Stephen Harper. ;)
  13. I would hazard a guess of a Conservative minority with NDP and Liberals in a tight fight for opposition. I would also guess that more Liberal voters will stay home tomorrow and more NDP voters may very well vote. I think total turnout will be higher than usual, but they may tend to be NDP supporters voting for Jack Layton, not the party itself. Liberals and Conservatives I think, will be voting for the party rather than the leader.
  14. I didn't realize the election was confined to your office. I guess I'd better stay home tomorrow. ;) Time and time again these polls have been found to be off the mark...............except all the polls that had Rob Ford winning the Mayoralty race in Toronto......
  15. I don't follow MSFT that closely, but Doug Kass tweeted yesterday "repeating for emphasis - msft is a value trap". No explanation given though, unless he said why on Fast Money on Thursday.
  16. That's why Cactus Jack wants proportional representation. He argued that the Bloc received 1.3M votes and has 51 seats, yet team Green had 1M votes and has no seats. Do you think proportional rep is a good thing? Im asking honestly. To me, I think it is. I mean, even the green party is being treated like shit and I gotto tell ya, i think they have more brains than the bloc. Well, I'm no expert, but the theory sounds good to me. But keep in mind, that Layton only supported this in the past as it would get him more seats also. He only used the Green Party as his example in the debate as not to draw attention to his own status. (I'm guessing since everyone who's not a Conservative supporter sees Harper as power hungry, Layton doesn't want to draw that conclusion to himself). It makes sense to me if 1/30th of the country voted Green, then they should represent 1/30th of Parliament MP's. I just don't understand how proportional representation works for MP's sitting in Ottawa. Right now, if you win your riding, you get your seat in the House of Commons, no matter how many voters in your riding voted. I don't know how MP's are chosen based on proportional representation. If I won with 25000 votes and you won your riding with 9000 votes, do we both go to Ottawa and have the same "power", for lack of a better word?
  17. That's why Cactus Jack wants proportional representation. He argued that the Bloc received 1.3M votes and has 51 seats, yet team Green had 1M votes and has no seats. But, if the polls to date are at least somewhat accurate (hardly, I know), then after Monday the Bloc will be silent since they continue losing seats. But I do agree, if a party is going to be invited to a national debate, and have the leader at least in the running to be P.M. they need a national campaign, not a provincial.
  18. I agree that the Bloc shouldn't be recognized on a national platform. But, from what the media is saying this time around, they aren't even a factor in any discussions since they seem to be bleeding seats. If there is a formal coalition or an informal one, they won't even be considered for an opinion on the matters since team orange and red can do it without them.
  19. If Jack Layton wasn't a socialist, then I think he would win in a landslide. But he has no plan, other than taxation, to pay for all his dreamland promises. Of course the NDP are a one man show. Once you get past Cactus Jack, they have nobody. The liberals need some "corporate re-structuring"......OK, they need a total overhaul. Maybe a call in to Chretien to kick some liberal a**, just like he did that reporter back in the day. :) Maybe Chretien and Paul Martin can tag team Harper and Flaherty. Someone needs to slap their arrogant butts around.
  20. http://www.gannononinvesting.com http://www.valueuncovered.com http://shadowstock.blogspot.com/ All 3 are great small and micro-cap blogs. http://oddballstocks.blogspot.com/ This is a new one I just found a couple of weeks ago http://gregspeicher.com/ Greg's blog is an all around great blog. 21. Excellent! One thing I still need to do is exercise more. I exercise about once per week, sometimes less :( which is about the same as what I was doing before going on the diet. --Eric Congratulations indeed! I used to be a gym rat until life kicked in, put on a few pounds, stairs exhaust me now etc. Our new home that we move into in May is in a "master planned community", so nice meandering streets, a community centre with a pool, gyms etc. The streets will be more appropriate for biking than where we are now (the old downtown in Newmarket, Ontario) which has all north/south and east/west streets with every other one a main street. I also will have a big basement for my woodshop and I've already found a fitness store for a basic bench and 300 lbs of olympic style weights pretty cheap. Now just to read those books that were suggested. ;)
  22. +1 Also ad Buffett to the list of words to sell books.
