One of these days we are going to get to a point where we don't think on our own at all. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/ibm-creating-pocket-sized-watson-040100567.html

Recession Generation Opts to Rent Not Buy Houses to Cars
CONeal replied to dcollon's topic in Berkshire Hathaway
This article could have been written with me in mind. Lost my job due to a buyout 9 months out of college and have been hesitant with large commitments ever since. Have been able to pickup and go on a dime which has allowed me to stay available to opportunities when they present themselves. I don't agree with the last section in the article. Just bc you don't own a house doesn't mean your not building wealth. -
Why OS it always the suggestion to cut out Saturday. It's the only day most people are able to pick up packages and ship things. Wish they would they and cut out a day during the week. Can't remember the last time I got something other then junk on a Wed. If they did go for profit would hate to inherit the pension obligations.

Make sure you keep the letter. You may have to present it later. With BAC if you lost the letter you wouldnt get the reduction. Think they made a person present it at some time.

Welcome to Charlotte. First piece of advice I would give is if you drive expect to take a written test to move your license to an NC license. This catches a few people by surprise. In my view is a very nice city with a small town feel. Hardly anyone here is originally from Charlotte so lots of people from different places.

This in one guy I wish I could make an investment in the actual person. What he has done in the past 14 years has been very exciting. Instead of paying a million to eat lunch with WB I would much rather spend it having luch with this guy!!! ;D

30 Ships of Unsold Coal Float Off China's Coast
CONeal replied to JEast's topic in General Discussion
Of course a couple traders get greedy without locking up a supplier and it gets twisted into more then it really is. If I was China I would make them sit for as long as possible no matter how much the demand is. These are the same people that will run the price up on you later. Send a message now. One could argue that food is a scarce resouce but China send back rice all the time to the US b/c it doesn't meet a particular standard they are looking for (the rice is still good but not what China is wanting). Wouldn't be suprised if the 30 boats of coal is something other then what they use according to specs. -
Still waiting for some cyclical stocks to act cyclical.

I've been thinking about a standing desk. Can you say more about the experience? I got a used ikea fredrick desk for $50 and set it up to standing height. It took me about 2-3 weeks to adapt - at first my feet hurt a lot - but after that adaptation period, I feel absolutely fine. My legs gained tons of muscle, I walk around every time I need to think, and I feel better physically. Initially, I wanted to get a motorized desk that can be adjusted for both sitting and standing, but I went with the cheap ikea desk as an experiment before spending over a grand on a motorized desk. I'm glad I did, because I'm not going back to sitting, so the expensive desk would have been a waste... Liberty I've been looking at the Fredrick for a few weeks. Do you mind posting a picture of your setup? Also, how tall are you? My understanding is that if you 6ft tall the desk will wobble.

I'm sure all of us would have an awesome newsletter with outstanding performance if we started January 2009.

I'm slowly converting over to the train of thought over the last year. It's actually more difficult then I thought it would be. In my mid 30's and my first actual vacation (since college) was last year. Rented a beach house for a week with friends, it was a blast and very relaxing. Bought a bed two weeks ago (first since I was 14) thought I was going to have a heart attack shelling out the money but damn that bed is comfortable.

Any suggestions with a particular brand with tools? Use to be strictly Craftsman (hand tools), with them using cheaper metal might look around a little if I ever need a new socket set. For power tools really like Makita. Cordless drill bought over 10 years ago still works like a charm.

What products do board members pay up for in order to have A better quality item and something that will last several years? Basically to save money in the long run. I have gotten more comfortable paying up for blue jeans. A pair of Levi's normally last 18 months max. Mavi jeans cost 2x as much but so far has lasted 5x longer. They actually still look brand new. Guess I should send a thank you card to an ex girlfriend telling me to not be such a tight ass.

I guess I have to give the guy credit for moving like the wind on this stuff but does he immediately phone the media or do they hound him for a quote on days like this? It seems that his moves are always public knowledge before the trade pie has even cooled! The stock fell today. How the heck would the media know what he is buying if he didn't disclose it. You know what they say, there is no such thing as bad press! Although, that's probably why we're managing such a pittance with our record. I just turned down another interview last week. You guys are the only ones who have to listen to me talk about myself. I hope you are enjoying it as much as I am! ;D Cheers! You need to get out there and start whoring yourself out. Then maybe people will realize that BAC is actually a bargin. Then again nevermind, I'd like to buy at these levels for another 6 months ;D

Does anyone know what is going on with PCX (Patroit coal) today? Down 50% and no news.

What if you died in 3 years? Would your kids be fine and able to have their needs supported as they grow up? Making sure you kids are provided for if you don't make it to work in the morning, is the reason for insurance in the first place.

By buying an existing profitable business due to the owner retiring wouldn't that cut out alot of the risk? You already have the talent in place and machinery to handle existing customers. Sure you would need to gain some knowledge but would think the main focus would be scale. Am I naive in my thinking?

My understanding is some of you on here are actual business owners. Would like to post a question to gain some insight to know where I need to focus my attenion since this is different then just owning stocks. Would like to own my own business in a few years. Focusing on businesses that are already in operation. If its an idustry that I have no experience in, then would use a few years to gain the experience. Do you have any suggestions on what path to go down, books to read, or things I need to consider? While there are articles on the internet most of it seem like they were written by someone that has never done it before or doesn't really provide any meat. Not really 100% sure on where I would like to focus my energy but would like to stay out of the food, retail, internet industries. Been thinking about manfacturing precision tools. Most of my experiece has been with database marketing in the financial and healthcare sectors. Have experience operating a farm in runoff but it is not something that would be repeatable. Would deeply value any insight you could provide.

It really doesn't amount to anything but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Hershey or Mars.
