There was an article yesterday about Australia having the most success in fighting the virus: https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/01/asia/australia-coronavirus-success-intl-hnk/index.html But it looks like their major banks are cutting payouts substantially -- it's interesting what a high ownership of the banks is held by retail investors, up to 50% of one of the big four: https://www.smh.com.au/business/banking-and-finance/don-t-bank-on-it-payout-shock-as-dividends-hit-the-wall-20200430-p54otp.html

Returning excess cash to shareholders when they don't know when it will stop coming in the door (could be many years). vs. Conserving capital when times are hard and you are uncertain as to when it will come flooding in again.

Pence's wife had a different story to tell. She said that Mike didn't know about Mayo Clinic's rule, although she acknowledges that his staff knew about the rule. Liars have conflicting stories to tell. The M.O. of everyone involved here is just to make stuff up and change it until it either goes away on its own because they jam the news cycle full of daily stupidities and scandals and nobody can keep up, or one of the variants they made up works better than the others ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The man is in charge of a COVID task force, there must be signs all around Mayo about the rule (how do you think they get people to comply?), everyone around him is wearing masks, but oops, he didn't know. Not very convincing. Pence is just doing his job -- we're not talking about injecting people with disinfectants at present.

Fauci essentially is saying that he is confident that he isn't sick today if he was not sick yesterday. That holds true every day going forward if it holds true for the last day past. In other words, everybody testing positive today will never get the virus.

Millions of lives could be saved from flu deaths over the next decade if everyone would stop eating meat and dairy. Is that statement correct? My understanding is that the flu comes from livestock (pigs and chickens) via wild ducks. Anyways, back to shutting down the world in order to save the same numbers from something else, and doing nothing as simple as a healthier diet for eradicating the flu...

https://www.statnews.com/2017/05/23/donald-trump-speaking-style-interviews/ He used to sound (speak) a lot smarter (read attached article for proof). It's either: an intentional change (appeal to lowest common denominator with plain speech) or he has dementia or he has a brain-eating parasite. Or perhaps a combo of all three. He's unfit.

It will be interesting to watch for the orange to disappear now that he's been thoroughly schooled on the effectiveness of light therapy on viral infections.

No, Case fatality rate is a % of known infected. Mortality rate is a % of population.

The best part is watching them squirm when their lack of knowledge is exposed. It's pretty hilarious, in a "laugh so you don't cry" sort of way. It doesn't help when Kushner is advising Trump and daughters tend to marry their fathers.

Trump sees partisan scheme in calls for ramped up virus testing To hear Trump tell it, the focus on coronavirus testing is a partisan scheme to "get him." That's demonstrably ridiculous. https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/trump-sees-partisan-scheme-calls-ramped-virus-testing-n1188751 Trump believes criticisms of him can't be sincere, so they must be part of a plot. He peddled a related line at yesterday's press briefing: "Remember it was all ventilators and the reason it was all ventilators, 'They said there's no way he'll ever be able to catch this one.' And not only did we catch it, we are now the king of ventilators all over the world. We can send them anywhere; we have thousands being made a week and they are very high quality. And that wasn't playing well, so then they said, Testing, testing, oh we'll get him on testing.'" There is no partisan scheme. As CNN's Daniel Dale explained, "The Republican governors of Ohio, Nebraska, Maryland and Massachusetts, Republican Senate health committee Chairman Sen. Lamar Alexander and other Republicans have all spoken in the last week about challenges obtaining testing materials or the need for more testing.... This is about more than Trump's unfortunate paranoia. If the president genuinely believes calls for ramped up testing are little more than a plot to "get him," he may be less likely to take the policy prescription seriously. For the public's sake, Trump needs to understand that this is not a plot; it's a real piece of the puzzle he's eager to solve.

Costco is selling a 3 liter wine box of Kirkland Cabernet Sauvignon. It works out to $3.75 per 750 mL bottle. It's honestly quite good.

It was Trump's job to get this done, he failed, and now he gripes about the consequence of failure.

Testing nationwide is currently at 150,000 per day, they said, adding that "If we can't be doing at least 500,000 tests a day by May 1, it is hard to see any way we can remain open." President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence say there is ample testing capacity for states to begin the first phase. But Gov. Ralph Northam of Maryland called the assertion "delusional" and said his state doesn't even have sufficient swabs to conduct testing. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/19/health/us-coronavirus-sunday/index.html

President Donald Trump yesterday retweeted a Republican politician's call to fire Dr. Anthony Fauci from his post as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Trump's decision to spread the anti-Fauci tweet came hours after Fauci, in an interview with CNN, said it's "obvious" that the United States could have saved lives by imposing social-distancing measures in February as health experts recommended. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2020/04/trump-spreads-firefauci-hashtag-on-twitter-as-pandemic-continues/

10. Everyone is a potential vector for the disease but the young will barely be affected. Children should not be locked up when they are essentially protected from almost any symptoms of the disease. The sooner they get the virus, the sooner they can develop immunity. In other words, the sooner my kids get it, the sooner I will get it, and my wife, and her coworkers, and their spouses and spouse's coworkers, etc... etc... Children don't live at home alone, what is this author dreaming about?

I didn't realize that ventilators only save 20%. Most Covid-19 patients will die after being placed on ventilators, with the mortality rate reaching up to 80% in intubated coronavirus patients, Smith said. https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/11/health/nurse-last-words-coronavirus-patient-trnd/index.html
