    FBK

Just wondering if anyone has had the rights show up in their account yet. Nothing in my TD account yet, I see that a tiny amount has traded the last couple of days at 5 and 6 cents.
  2. The volume is up quite a bit today over what it has been lately and the price is holding up. So hopefully we are at a turning point.
  3. Whatever the case the volume has sure dropped off after the change to FBK. Seems to be staying down most days then popping back up to that 1.40 range at the end of the day. Dan
  4. Just thinking, not knowing what the terms are going to be exactly. If we are to assume that FFH is not happy with the rights offering and it is not in their interests, then there is really only a couple of scenarios that I can see. Either FBK never had involvement from FFH in the planning process and basically turned their back and really stabbed in the back the biggest shareholder. Or FFH was involved in the planning process and the team they had in the process is completely incompetent. Hopefully it is neither of these scenarios and we will see the game plan as it unfolds. Also open to other theories. Dan
  5. Has any one heard if they are still changing over to Fibrek on the 25th like they had planned in their last press release. That would have it trading under a new symbol tomorrow if everything is in place. Dan
  6. Interesting webcast. To bad he didn't give the time line for all the pulp projects in Brazil coming on line like he did for the China projects. Seems like demand should be strong in the interim though. Dan
  7. My apologies for bringing it to attention. :( wiped out two days of gain in one fell swoop.
  8. A little off topic, but any thoughts of if the rumor of this is what has been creeping FFH stock up lately. See it was almost double average volume yesterday also. Dan
  9. I farm in northern Saskatchewan so any examples I have would be useless to you. You have to realize that your question is also like asking is investing in stocks profitable, it is for some it isn't for others. All I now is that on average, outside of the supply managed sectors you aren't going to make 7% cash yield on your capital investment by farming here. If you happen to be near a city you may be okay on land appreciation. Was reading somewhere not that long ago that ranching land in the U.S. about 15 years ago used to be priced strictly on the production capacity of the land. Now it is priced more for it's recreation value, sort of like lake property. Good luck and hope you are able to fulfill your dreams.
  10. http://farm.ewg.org/sites/farmbill2007/ Not completely relevant but an informative web site, just applies to the U.S. though, would be interesting if one was available for Canada but you know how our government likes releasing information. ;) I used it once when a farm paper ran an article about an ag economics professor from the U.S.. He was giving talks in Canada about how to manage cash flows and using debt for expansion, talked about how effective it was in his farming operation. Turns out the various operations he was associated with had received millions in direct subsidies in the last few years, I guess economics is all relative. Would be interesting to see where it would all level out without all the subsidies, but probably not in my lifetime. It seems the more they try to save things the more they destroy them. Dan Dan
  11. Does anyone think that SFK will reinstate a dist of some sort, or will it only worry about conversion for now, Dan
  12. Wow! Who would have thought from the Title of this thread, the turn it would take in middle portion. Good thing I'm not squeamish. :o Dan
  13. As is the price of sfk.
  14. The thousand plus shares for Jan Christiansen weren't showing when I had checked on Canadianinsider last night. I'm mostly curious if this is insider trades for that day that are showing up on that chart . If so then it is still 4000 plus shares short as to the value. How long do insiders have before they have to report. Haven't tried using SEDI in a while, found it quite user unfriendly last time I tried, but may have to give it another try.
  15. http://investorvillage.com/groups.asp?mb=6781&mn=54889&pt=msg&mid=8830019 I've been looking around this site the past couple of days as it was mentioned by a poster on the Motley fool board. This fellow has posted the TSX insider trade summary for the last two days, probably more than that but I haven't looked back in the posts. But the last two days I've noticed that Fairfax is in the top ten for value of shares bought. Does anyone have any information as to who the insider or insiders are in this case or is it fairfax itself buying back. Nothing shows up on the canadianinsider website. Dan
  16. Any thoughts on whether management can turn this around. I know from buying presents for kids, I have always sort of lumped their products with the dollar store type of stuff. No real brand loyalty as far as quality and nothing really novel, can that be changed with new product lines or new direction. Dan
  17. I guess the story isn't finished yet. http://money.cnn.com/2010/03/22/smallbusiness/jones_soda/index.htm?source=ft Dan
  18. Yeah, I haven't unloaded yet either. Missed opportunity, or is this a brief interlude before a longer term climb? Time will tell! SJ It's interesting that I bought and sold FFH a few times for profit as I was learning about it. Then it seems that the more I learned about it the harder it became to sell as I felt that it was not at the value I felt it should be at. So talk about a few missed opportunities especially last spring when I was hoping for a pop after earnings release and well you know the rest of the story. But I'm not anywhere near under water though either. Dan
  19. SJ, Looks like you were right... But it hasn't hit the 80's yet. :) Dan
  20. To be honest I really can't wrap my head around the arguments not to split, which doesn't mean they aren't there. It just seems that all the arguments for it not to be done seem to be emotional arguments and have no real financial merit for the company or the shareholder. We've all seen with Fairfax that it doesn't stop any of the things that go on with all the stocks on the market. It just seems that psychologically it would be easier for the market to move a stock from 32 to 50 than from 320 to 500. There may be studies that refute that, but I also feel we are in a different era now with easy access to electronic trading and discount trading fees. Open to pillaring now. ;D Dan

    Markel

On the surface it seems like pretty impressive results, but I'm sure I'm missing something and the market will bring them down tomorrow. :) Dan

    Markel

Wow what a fast reply, Thanks
  23. Someone had mentioned Markels' earnings being released in the FFH thread. Yet they don't seem to have been released yet, even though it appears that they were to be released before market open today. Was the release date wrong or have they delayed releasing. Dan
  24. Providing a nice after market jump to the stock also. Dan
  25. It was discussed before about how much we may get on the conversion of the div to C$. I was just curious as to how much spread if any there is across brokers. At TDWaterhouse my div came in at 10.475 per share. Dan
