Underreaction will kill people. This is new unexplored territory and no one knows how it will work out so it is better to overreact than underreact.

And back to the Coronavirus... “Without any containment measures whatsoever the WHO estimates one person with this virus affects 2.5 others.” So let’s round it off to 3 people. If each of those 3 spread it to 3 more and they spread it to 3 more (already we are up to 81 people) and each of them spread it to 3 more. I mean, in a matter of a week that one single person could have essentially infected thousands. So barring a treatment or vaccine which could be months. if not years away it is hard not to be pessimistic as to how we resolve this any time soon.

Couple of questions that have been nagging at me so I will just throw them out there. How do we know when this thing is over? One person can spread the virus to dozens of others, correct? And each one of those can spread it to numerous others so it spreads on an exponancial basis. So a long as even a few people in the world has the virus, how do we return to normal life with a normal economy? So aside from finding effective treatments and a vaccine, how can anyone say it will not continue to spread unless we know that no one has it?

Cubs, Lets set the record straight. First: you are the only one who used the word “liar”. Second: I have never professed to be an expert on Cuba as you keep saying. However, having been there well over a dozen times in the past 20 years I probably know more about the country than you who has never been there. Third: Your words... “I've said the Communist government of Cuba has failed their people for 60 years and the welfare of the people is the responsibility of the Cuban government.” What you conveniently ignore is the fact that the US is intentionally using the embargo to strangle the government AND THERBY the PEOPLE of Cuba. And by the way, the Cuban people are not particularly poor. But it doesn’t matter how much money you have if there is no food on the shelves because the local bully does everything it can to starve the country. You also stated: “Cwericb - read it and weep. 68 countries have banned exports of PPE.” But one of them was not Canada. Ironic that Canada supplies the the materials to make the masks and then your country hijacks them. Judge yourself accordingly sir.

Hey Cubs, I am no particular fan of China. But they did come to Canada's aid when our supposed best friend to the south flatly refused - or did you miss that fact. And unlike some I don't hate every poor person who happens to live in another country.

Watching Trump on Corona virus and in almost an hour I don't think the man has completed a sentence yet. rb, don't let Cubs get to you. He brings up the most rediculous things and then if you ask him a question or to support his accusations he disappears or changes the subject. They have names for people like that.

Dear Mr. Trump. You can keep your masks. We have just sent Air Canada to China to pick up a few million of them. While we will not forget, we do have enough class class to continue to provide you with the materials to make those precious masks that you stole from us. We will not shut the power off to Boston and New York, nor will we prevent the 3,000 Canadian nurses who cross the border daily to staff Detroit’s hospitals. And the next time you have a 911, we will still allow your planes to land here and take in your people. But it is nice to know who your true friends are in times of need.

Cubs when I asked “How do you justify Trump’s unconscionable order to withhold medical equipment to Canada.” You have no answer. But it is a really, really stupid decision that he refuses to change. What if Canada stop supplying the products to make those masks? What if Canada stops the 3,000 nurses that cross the border every day to staff Detroit’s hospitals? What if Canada was to throw the switch on the power Canada supplies to keep the lights on in New York, Boston, etc. The point I am trying to make is that this is an example of how your guy keeps making embarrassing knee jerk reactions to things he doesn’t fully understand.

As usual Cubs, you avoid the questions. Long Haul I agree. It only makes sense to wear masks. There are thousands of people who have the virus and do not know it yet. If they wore masks it would go a long way to reducing the spread. What's the downside? But when the guy in charge makes light of it ...

The reason you haven’t been to Cuba Cubs is because you are not allowed to go there by your government. On the other hand a Cuban can leave Cuba - I can send you photos of a couple who have visited us if you like. Now which is the free country? Having just returned from Cuba and having made numerous trips there over the past 20 years and having made numerous friends there, I think I just might know a little more about the situation there than do you. Unlike the US they have free education and have free medical care. They have excellent doctors and in fact, send doctors all over the world for humanitarian reasons. The problem with their health care system is that the US has blocked their access to equipment and medicine. Nice guys, eh. So now Trump has decided to class Canada like Cuba and has ordered 3M not to supply N95 masks to Canada. Defend that.

I have always had the utmost respect for our American neighbours, but boy is it wearing thin. So far this week, he wanted to mass troops on the border. (For what to keep Americans in?) Now he orders 3M not to supply us with any masks to protect our health workers. Remember when Canada took in hundreds of stranded US planes on 9/11? Sent troops to die alongside US soldiers in Afghanistan? Sent help to New Orleans after Katrina? Donald Trump clearly doesn't.
