  1. No, that is just BS. Many are not. How many people in the reporting business do you personally know and are all of them scum. Or do you not know any on a personal level? If you don't want to believe in a free press, that's your prerogative. Or is it that you just don't believe in the press that does reflect your thinking? Were it not for the press where would you get much of your information? Sure lots of what we read and see caters to one side or the other, it is a matter of how you assess what you see, read, whatever. Let me ask you this. You assess this guy as scum. So what do you think he should have done with the information that he received? What do you think he should have done with the information and about how he received it? Do you think he should have covered it up? I mean this is not a case where he stole someone's personal information. This information was specifically and directly given to him.
  2. So why refer to the reporter who reported this fiasco in this way? What has he done wrong? Of all the people involved, why is he the "dildo" in this incident? Did he not do his job? Didn't he withhold the information until after the operation? There are enough idiots involved in this fiasco to blame without blaming the messenger. Why disparage the innocent with the all too typical childish name calling rather than admit this is just more evidence of the incompetency of the administration? Of course this seems to be the style of the present administration, but surely their supporters don't need to stoop to the same level. It just seems that Trump and his crew have lowered common decency to the point any form of decorum is a thing of the past with this administration and it's supporters.
  3. "Also, Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various US dairy products,..." Just to set the record straight, any tariff on dairy charged by Canada was A) approved, signed and AGREED to, by no less than Donald J Trump. And B) Canada has NEVER applied tariffs of 250% or anything like that. Simply one more bold faced lie by Trump swallowed whole by the cult. PS. The value of American dairy exports to Canada totalled more than US$1 billion last year — nearly triple what Canada sold to the U.S. in 2024.
  4. Well it is pretty simple. If you think "everything is great down here! " Then why is your great leader crying repeatedly about how the poor USA is being 'treated so horribly" by everybody? There is hardly a night goes by that he is not crying on TV about this.
  5. Not sure of your point. But this crap about the poor United States being taken advantage of by Canada, by The Ukraine, by Europe, and the by whole ROW is really, really getting tired. Are we all supposed to feel sorry for the US, is that the point? It seems that every freaking night your great leader is going on and on crying about how somebody has treated the US so horribly. Everyone has taken advantage of the of the poor US. I, as have many Canadians, have always held the US in very high regard. But now with Trump acting like the biggest crybaby in history going on and on about how every country on earth has been taking advantage of the US, I mean it is getting embarrassing just to listen to all this BS. Can't you guys just suck it up and shut up? I realize that this is primarily the Trump cult that has this "poor us" attitude, but nearly all Canadians have great American friends but you guys on the far right and your deranged leader are really becoming an embarrassment to your country. This is not the way to Make America Great Again.
  6. Canada has stiffed no one. You're just pissed because Canada hasn't spent enough money in the US buying American made weapons. And right now we are purchasing $13B worth of F-35's but now we are reconsidering purchasing more given Trump's attitude towards Canada. Why would we buy weapons from a country that has threatened to annex us? No other country including China and Russia have threatened Canada, only the 'great' USofA.
  7. "More than one million Canadians and Newfoundlanders served in uniform, both here at home and around the world. Over 45,000 of our brave men and women in uniform gave their lives and another 55,000 were wounded." To put this in perspective Canada had a population during the war of just 11 million.
  8. Cubs that surplus is entirely due to energy Canada supplies to the U.S., Oil, Natural Gas, and electricity. Should we stop supplying that? Shut off your electricity? Shut down your refineries? When we suggested we might start to shut a little bit of electricity why did the US they nearly had a fit if they don't want it? Y'all can't have it both ways. And by the way, why is Canada supplying our oil to the US at a substantial discount?
  9. You are probably like me in wanting to grab him and shake him while yelling ... "Listen! Smarten up. Carbon tax is essentially history, there are a million other things you can put in your platform and if you don't get on the ball you are going lose this!!" It also does bother me that he is essentially a career politician. My biggest disappointment is that Carney wasn't running as a Conservative.
  10. As a guy who has voted PC all his life, I have to admit I am somewhat undecided. Poilievere is coming off as a bit of a one trick pony with his concentration on the carbon tax. He is a very persuasive speaker but his message is getting real old and a lot of people are waiting to see what else he has to say. I am also concerned about his heavily leaning towards Western interests as opposed to representing the whole country. A firm promise of a pipeline to the East Coast would open up large new markets for Canadian oil both in Eastern Canada and European markets. Makes no sense for E. Canada to import from Venezuela and the Middle East. It would also open up the European market for Canadian oil replacing our dependency on U.S. Trump has said they don't need our oil. So lets see how they get along with out it. For far too long we have boxed ourselves in to supplying the U.S. needs and selling the U.S. oil at discounted prices. But as one who followed Carney's time as Governor of the Bank of Canada that got us through the financial crises and also Gov of The Bank of England where he got them through Brexit is impressive. And I don't believe either Goldman Sachs or Brookfield are in the habit of hiring left wing loonies. Just gonna have to sit back and see how things settle out over the next few weeks.
  11. Well let's not forget this. "Trump University (also known as the Trump Wealth Institute and Trump Entrepreneur Initiative LLC) was an American company that ran a real estate training program from 2005 to 2010. It was owned and operated by The Trump Organization. A separate organization, Trump Institute, was licensed by Trump University but not owned by The Trump Organization. In 2011, amid multiple investigations, lawsuits and student complaints, it ceased operations. It was founded in 2004 by Donald Trump and his associates Michael Sexton and Jonathan Spitalny. The company offered courses in real estate, asset management, entrepreneurship, and wealth creation. Despite its name, the organization was not an accredited university or college. It conducted three- and five-day seminars (often called "retreats") and used high-pressure tactics to sell them to its customers. It did not confer college credit, grant degrees, or grade its students. In 2011, the company became the subject of an inquiry by the New York Attorney General's office for illegal business practices, which resulted in a lawsuit filed in August 2013. An article in the National Review called the organization a "massive scam". Trump University was also the subject of two class actions in federal court. The lawsuits centered on allegations that Trump University defrauded its students by using misleading marketing practices and engaging in aggressive sales tactics. The company and the lawsuits against it received renewed interest due to Trump's candidacy in the 2016 presidential election. Despite repeatedly insisting he would not settle, Trump settled all three lawsuits in November 2016 for a total of $25 million after being elected president.
  12. Another brilliant dodge. Dodge? What wasn't true in what I said? By the way, never mind NATO, ever hear of NORAD Cubs? And just to set things straight, many of us Canadians are not happy with how our previous governments have handled our defence programs, just as I strongly suspect there may be a few Obama decisions you were not happy with.
  13. You mean the one who brags about being a self made billionaire, who inherited $700 million in New York real estate from his daddy 40 years ago. The same guy that has had six or seven bankruptcies where he screwed numerous suppliers and contractors. Do you mean that guy?
  14. Yup. And after getting stabbed in the back by our long time friends, it may well be a looong time before the US gets their biggest customer back. Talk about short sighted. Trump and his cronies are supposed to be smart businessmen. What businessmen threatens and insults their best customer?
  15. Come on Cubs. You know why the US wants more money spent on NATO. It is simply the fact that the US knows that much of that "NATO money" is going to go to US arms manufacturers which in turn, keeps Americans employed and puts more money into US coffers through taxes AND tariffs. So then, when the US spends money of F-35's or whatever, the US government gets much of that money back in taxes paid by defence contractors and their employees. But the US still gets to say oh, we spent all this money for NATO on these F-35's or whatever.
  16. Yup Cubs, Y'all wouldn't want a smart guy running your country now would you?
  17. Hmmm. If you think a graduate from Harvard and Oxford and a former head of the Bank of Canada AND Bank of England as well as a senior exec with Brookfield (BAM) is a "left wing loon", man, it tends to show how far to the extreme right you are.
  18. Haha! Remember this was the same White House that was so insulted because Zelensky refused to wear a suit! Truly a circus of clowns.
  19. Cubs, have you ever heard the expression... "Consider the source"? Do you ever fact check what you read? But then again, there are those who listen to Trump and believe most (all?) of what he says. The man lies so much you have to wonder about the people who believe what he says. The sorry part of this is that he has sucked in some reasonably smart people as well as the die hard members of his cult. It appears that some here will listen to any far right BS and take it as gospel.
  20. "5-Mar-2025 Fairfax provides reinsurance and property and casualty insurance in Canada, the United States, and other international markets. The company also has some noninsurance operations such as restaurants. Fairfax has been led by Prem Watsa, its chairman and CEO, since its formation in 1985." Really?? Are you kidding me? Fairfax has a restaurant sideline. Jeez, if that is Morningstar's concept of Fairfax then it is not much wonder Mr. Horne is so out of touch. Mr. Horne's vision of Fairfax probably includes envisioning Prem out flipping burgers in a Harvey's parking lot on weekends.
  21. Yup, and to top it all off we have great masses of people (including some here) who firmly believe that a group of sociopathic billionaires are trying hard to help out the middle and lower classes. They are trying to help them out all right.
  22. Very well said Xerxes!
  23. Are domestic alternatives available? At what cost? Canada's main exports to the US are Electricity, Natural Gas, and Oil. If those products were easily or cheaply available in the US why would the US be importing them?
  24. Drug problem at the border? Do you cross the Canadian/US border often? When you go into one country from the other, it is the country you are entering that has the responsibility to check that contraband is not entering their country. When you leave say, the US to enter Canada, you clear through Canadian customs. You just drive past the US customs checkpoint with out even stopping. When you go from Canada to the US, you don't even stop at Canadian customs. Is not the US responsible for their own borders? Look at the guns and drugs that come into Canada from the US. Whose fault is that?
  25. It boggles the mind that this "great businessman, great negotiator, etc, etc would think that the best way to deal with the United State's biggest customer for exports is to insult them, punish them, lie about them and lie about them. Funny way treat your customers.
