I see it as buying insurance on the portfolio with a decent chance of printing some money. Soxx is the most obvious one in my opinion.
-
Fist time buying puts - some 2027 SOXX. And some FFH, MELI

Are higher interest rates a net negative in the short term for Fairfax and positive sometime out?
-
Not too shabby. 5% year-end would be good, no?
-
Anyone has the YTD %?
-
Brk.b and FFH. Anyone else?
-
Bunch of FFH
-
Haha yeah i was late to the party i guess. Was buying the last 8 months or so. Ha! You are right. Hope this share count number continues getting lower dramatically

Keeping averaging down here. Already got way too much but hey its cheap? A double in 5 years from these levels? Market Cap $36 bn $1.5 bn Underwriting profit $2.5 bn Interest and dividends $1.0 bn Income from associates and non-insurance consolidated income $150 per share after taxes, interest expense, corporate overhead, and other costs. Before fluctuations from realized and unrealized gains and losses in the stock and bond market At whihch level would you think Prem privately would load up the truck again?
-
So Chubb, Wrb, Brk, Markel, et all up - FFH down? Interesting lets see if this continues after earnings
-
97.4k shares just traded - might have been FFH?
-
Another 4% down. Added a bit Edit: now 8% lol. Buying more. Hope Prem is smashing that buying button.
-
Another 50k today at the opening?

I used to be a professional handball player in Germany, so I know how naturally athletes develop certain habits before games—especially when those routines have led to past success. You could see it clearly in the locker rooms, where many players followed their own rituals and stuck to a specific pre-game routine. See also the current situation at Barcelona soccer players with their bandages. Nadal himself said that he doesn’t see his routines as superstitions. For him, they’re a way to create mental order and a sense of control. He believes these rituals help him focus and mentally prepare for the challenges on court. (Placing his hair behind his ear and touching his shorts before each serve, using a towel after every point, carefully placing his water bottles in a specific position, etc.). I was fortunate to witness one of Rafael Nadal’s final victories—if not the last—at the Madrid Open last year, in a great match against Cachin.

+1. I am following the same strategy but with an internationally diversified ETF (VT - https://investor.vanguard.com/investment-products/etfs/profile/vt). Is there a reason why you only want to cover the US market? -
That was meant as a joke - sorry if it came across wrong. I believe in being invested in good companies/assets over the long term and spare myself any kind of short-term predictions.

Looking for Advice / Stories from Older folks

100%! Even if I had infinite money, I would still work a few hours a week. I think it's nice to interact with different people, and it keeps you going. My grandparents had their own company, and they went to the office until they were 97 and 92. — I am probably one of the younger folks here - turned 26 couple of months ago. I am working in FDD and thought it would be a solid foundation for my career. But I don't really find it satisfying. There is so much stupid and unnecessary adhoc/asap work. People are quite nice compared to these M&A shops, but at the end of the day, it somehow feels like everyone in finance lives in some sort of a bubble. What also frustrates me is that if you've read Buffett/Munger, you also know that most of what you do is not really relevant. Always find myself in this spot between "be happy with the job/opportunities you have and keep it going a couple of years" and "if you're not happy, switch immediately," (don't save sex for old age) Goal for me is to become independent as soon as possible. Since I moved to Zurich and taxes are low, thats maybe 7-8 years out. -
Nice. Yes thought its maybe not the best but compared to last year not the worst time to buy. Which grades are you typically going for?
