  1. +1 for Nova Scotia. We're good peoples, and especially happy in the summer! lol
  2. 1. Make investing my career. 2. Don't experience another permanent loss of capital. 3. Have the opportunity to explore my own intellectual curiosity everyday - for a living. (see #1) 4. Buy a boat. (ignore #2 for a second ;D)
  3. Thank you! The Elevation Capital archive is great. I never really spent much time learning about his style. As it turns out, we have some big similarities in our approach. It would've been an honor to work under someone like Walter back in the day. York
  4. Thank you very much. My long weekend is made!
  5. I would love a copy of his letters, if anyone has them. Thank you, York
  6. The Power Query and Power Pivots are very helpful in modeling and pulling data from multiple set or locations together. The measure and KPI feature is very handy.
  7. These are two great talks Shane Parish did with Michael. https://fs.blog/2018/02/michael-mauboussin-interview/ https://fs.blog/michael-mauboussin/
  8. Wine. Merry Christmas - Happy Holidays, everyone!
  9. Great company with nice, boring, money making holdings. CKI.TO has certainly served me well.
  10. Whilst exchanging a few hours per week, for fiat currency, at a predetermined location, I use PowerBI for some project/site/job tracking and data visualization. This has been a pretty good tool at developing sharable insights into different metrics. When it comes to investing, I am usually shy of even a DCF in Excel... but do like to put together a rough look at what the Dupont Analysis decomposition looks like. Again, I find this numerical decomposing snapshot can provide some great insights. Does anyone on CoB have experience leveraging PowerBI's visualization powers for good in investing?
  11. Hello CBF friends and family: Has anyone been able to find this First Annual letter to the original Buffett Partnership? Thank you, YORK
  12. Do you have an opinion on the future outlooks of proposed projects on the East Coast of Canada? Pieridae, the proponent of the Goldboro LNG project, realized the headwind it was facing as far as US based feedstock years ago and ended up purchasing a very small, Québec based, natural gas E&P company in an attempt to add critical mass to its project. The future as far as it pertains to exporting Canadian carbon and hydrogen molecules, regardless of the ratio, will be interesting for sure.
  13. I applied to ValueInvestorsClub.com last-year with my idea for Bellamy's Australia (ASX: BAL). I wasn't accepted on this idea - I wasn't exactly surprised or disappointed. The only purpose a membership to this site would be to mention it on a resume (and have it not be a lie) or as high-watermark of quality to someone who would care. Have you personally tired to more than once to gain accepted to ValueInvestorsClub.com? Given the quality of other sites (like CoBF :) ), is VIC still relevant? - Especially to Canadians.
  14. Looks like Amazon’s price matching algorithm is working well. This book was $30 on Amazon.ca the other day.
  15. In some perfect value scenario Jeremy C. Miller's book is on sale for $10 at Indigo in Canada. Hurry while supplies last! https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/warren-buffetts-ground-rules-words/9780062415561-item.html?ikwid=jeremy+miller&ikwsec=Home&ikwidx=5
  16. 100 years ago everyone owned a horse and only the rich had cars. Today, everyone has a car and only the rich have horses. Oh how the stables have turned.
  17. This topic has been moved to Personal Finance. To reflect subject matter. [iurl]http://www.cornerofberkshireandfairfax.ca/forum/index.php?topic=15875.0[/iurl]
  18. Use paper and a pencil if you need to do a DCF. It will help keep out the gobably gook - much easier to fill Excel full mental scaffolding you don’t need.
