  1. well said @John Hjorth !!!
  2. wow this is a really bad article. How do you not include BNSF in the Buyer's Remorse table? That would be an A+ and was the largest of them all
  3. @John Hjorth thank you sir!!
  4. Does anyone have the Barrons cover story on Berkshire to share possibly?
  5. The business generates about ~$40 billion of normalized operating income annually. Even a modest dividend 1% which would equate to a 25% payout ratio (roughly) and allow the for more then enough fire-power when needed. Honestly with $360 billion or whatever the number is in T-bills - interest income is a real source of low-risk earnings.
  6. Andrew Bary basically runs and re-runs the same article times on Berkshire, as well as a collection of odd-ball businesses. He does not have any unique insights at all in my view.
  7. 'Are they even in the game' -- I am laughing so hard at this. No mention of OXY deal at all from these clowns. This is epic honestly
  8. huge homerun for Berkshire on MANY fronts. This is a great asset, and we get to keep our preferred. Well done. I wonder if some activist, or PE Fund will try and overpay for this?? Oncor would have been an amazing asset inside of BHE - but activists were there to block it.
  9. This is a great asset. I really hope BRK acquires it! A lot of us speculated about this in the past. After the failed deal with ONCOR a few years back ... if this one also falls through, or BRK is outbid by some PE investor - you really have to question Berkshire's approach. I'd be OK if BRK swapped the 8% preferred for this. It's that attractive of an asset. Also an asset-swap might also avoid a shareholder vote for OXY. They could really sell it to their investors regarding interest expense alone.
  10. Could the worsening relations between the US and India be a net-negative for Fairfax and keep a cap on valuation expansion from here? Just a thought ...
  11. Bell Labs is now listed as a Sub on the website! https://www.berkshirehathaway.com/subs/sublinks.html
  12. Where can I see this list that you mention?
  13. @bizaro86 IBKR is a great example!
  14. Nick Sleep of Nomad Partners wrote extensively on this concept of 'Scale Economies Shared' were select companies are able to use their size, value prop, and customer loyalty to drive additional cost savings to customers. These are businesses with specifically keep margins low to increase market share and value additive services to the customers benefit. Think companies like Costco, Amazon, Heico etc. Not many investors talk like this - and I still think the market doesnt fully understand this concept. What other SES companies are out there? o'reilly stands out as well.
  15. I am a HUGE fan of both Todd and Ted btw ...
  16. The add to HEI.A is amazing ... would love for this to be a BRK sub - where they merged HEI and PCP together!!
  17. Love that they keep the buyback going !!
  18. By Sabrina Valle (Reuters) -Berkshire Hathaway-owned BNSF Railway is working with Goldman Sachs to explore the takeover of a rival railroad, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday. A deal would add to a slew of M&A activity in the railway sector, amid rival Union Pacific's possible acquisition of Norfolk Southern to create a $200 billion coast-to-coast rail network. A merger between Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern would create the first modern West-to-East single-line freight railroad in the U.S., altering the industry's competitive landscape for peers like BNSF. BNSF did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. It was not immediately clear whether BNSF would target Norfolk or the other East Coast carrier, CSX, according to Semafor which first reported the development. Shares of Norfolk Southern were up 2.4% in extended trading. (Reporting by Anshuman Tripathy and Arsheeya Bajwa in Bengaluru, and Sabrina Valle in New York; Editing by Anil D'Silva)
  19. Prem has written before about Henry Singleton of Teledyne ... Singleton reduced Teleydyne's shares outstanding by 90% toward the back-half of his career. I'm wondering if something similar could happen to FFH. Give it another 5 years of current buyback pace and things could be very interesting.
  20. BRKB CSU HEI.A PGR COST FICO FFH
  21. @John Hjorth not much - but its rare for a sub-CEO to give an interview like this... thus I thought I'd share it. I do think NetJet's offers tremendous value for its customers.
  22. Barrons is running an article this weekend on mini-Berkshire's and will be listing out FairFax, Markel, White Mountain, and a few other companies ... I believe FFH will be listed out first!! decent read!
  23. Does anyone know if this is little Japan book is for sale anywhere? I'd love to get the most recent version and look through it
