Shouldn't be a huge surprise - these things are massive and almost always delayed. Even the Gorgon LNG project was massively overbudget but is finally paying off big time. Enterprise and NVGS are expanding on their ethylene plant; LPG is also critical but that infrastructure is already in place.

Depends who comes after Putin and if they view Europe or China as better for mother Russia.

Interesting thread on twitter on CS; out of my playbook but thought I'd share (click on each thread to get translate option):

No change in my upcoming Geico quote. This bodes well.

Another clear disruption from the Ukraine war is the supply of ammonia to Europe, which is impacting the LPG trading market, and has been benefiting handysize shipping companies like NVGS. Of course, the overall LPG shipping industry is notorious for overbuilding and that is exactly the case right now for the VLGS ships (20% of order book), which is a risk investors need to look at, even though a company like NVGS is largley handysize (and there are various mitigators to consider including petro-capable ships vs fully refridge). Just throwing this plug out there for anyone familiar with these markets.

Well, he did the same with Oracle.

The best part is, somehow the directors independence is comprimised, yet get no director fee compensation.

My suggestion is to write an investment thesis/idea and get a free subscription for a couple of months and see if you like it. Moreover, TIKR is also another option that is free with some features unlocked if you subscribe. You can also use both to supplement whatever you need. Ive used SA to scroll through big headlines of several watchlists, as Google Finance is not at the same level yet. But everyone uses these things for different purposes.

This is based on where customer facilities are located. South Korean firms with facilities in China have been exempt, for example, so what the impact will be is unknown, but likely much smaller than that those percentages indicate.

No and yes, most of it is being built up as we speak. All major ship yards are filled with LNG and to an extent container ships. You can't build any other type of ship for several years. But, that backlog takes some time to come into market.
-
Yes, perhaps, but also quite very positive for Canadian producers, if they can get it out of the country.

That story won't ever make the airwaves, let alone the letter sent to Buffett for the idea, but what a boost of energy for that small WV town. Edit: Thanks for sharing

WSJ had an interesting piece on this guy starting a new anti-ESG fund, with the first fund copying Blackrock's iShares US Energy ETF -- but will be voting and proposing shareholder resolutions, like "All current and future investments shall be evaluated exclusively through the lens of financially measurable return on investment." And to counter Larry Fink's overly confident letters to CEO, submit resolutions that state “All hiring at every level, including executive and board hiring, shall be based exclusively on job qualifications, without regard to race, sex, sexual orientation or political belief.” WSJ article: https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-your-retirement-account-got-politicized-blackrock-firms-money-investment-index-funds-markets-partisan-politics-11660058521?mod=Searchresults_pos1&page=1 I admire what he is trying to accomplish - the ESG train has gotten far too political, but how successful he will be remains to be seen. I hope he is though and may invest a little bit in his fund just to support the cause. https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20220810005508/en/Strive-Launches-U.S.-Energy-Index-Fund-DRLL-to-Deliver-a-New-Shareholder-Mandate-to-U.S.-Energy-Companies

My sarcasm didn't catch - I wasn't speaking on individual vehicle terms - Ford is worst in industry this year with recalls and warranty issues.
-
The GMC HummerEV is dope. But if you are worried about recalls and warranty repairs, stop by Ford.
-
Well, the bull case is GM becomes a software-defined, high tech EV and Hydrogen Fuel Cell logistics company that dominates the world, earning a trillion dollar valuation, 10 years from now. Saddle up!

HP! lol

Tahoe with the inline six diesel, or if you don't want diesel, Jeep Wagoneer with the new inline six turbocharged hurricane. It's just money. Detroit muscle beats all.

Are the ESG folks really this lazy they can't delve into the facts of Berkshire Hathaway and understand that its a climate leader rather than a laggard? https://www.ft.com/content/9ed603c4-ecbb-4181-a78b-f3b9f16703a8 Iowa customers have some of the cheapest energy in the country, and in a few years, will get all of its electricity from wind, with coal as a backstop. Coal will be out of the BHE system by 2049 and nat gas will be down to a trickle by 2050. Berkshire is the largest investor owned utility with renewable infrastructure. BNSF and BHE disclose Scope 1 and 2 emission reduction goals and both are evaluating how to get to a net zero pathway by 2050. Yet, these ESG providers don't look under the hood and have started influenced passive investor voting decisions. For Berkshire this won't matter much for now, but this is poor accountability.

Well, for one, if one did invest in DJCO, you'd have to believe in long-term nature of the niche software business that DJCO is investing in, i.e. DJCO eating all the costs upfront, and 5 years from now, bearing the fruits of its labor. That type of business or investment is not readily available to investors. Analogous would be something like raw camera converters that are focused on certain niche areas of the photography world that Adobe doesn't have the time or need to focus on, given the niche scale of those subset of customers.

I admire your passion. I just don't think he is reckless nor on tilt. I'll keep an open mind though.

Baupost Seth Klarman 2021 Letter on 2020
RadMan24 replied to nickenumbers's topic in General Discussion
It's just because there are limited copies and its no longer in print. However, going to the library is free. Several universities and established libraries have a copy. Or, at least they did 10 years ago. -
The articles were a good read. I'll have to spill through your notes in due course, thanks for posting.
