Immediately after the shooting, Bannon and a number of other MAGA hosts started saying that this is a war...that they are at war...that they were going to do something about this! Not sure where the heck you got the idea that TMZ would/could be involved in Kirk's death. The left was pushing the right with Obama and Biden...but the bulk of this rhetoric and animosity originated with Trump's 1st term where he essentially disposed of any decorum, attacked almost everyone on the left and became increasingly confrontational. It just went to another level during Biden's term when they were railing against MAGA and the GOP, but Trump turned the volume up to maximum in his 2nd term. MAGA supporters back what he's doing in terms of his mandate, but even they have to admit that Trump's actions and behavior have been pushing boundaries in almost every area he touches this term. So let's stop with the left mostly bullshit...it always takes two to tango and the left and right have been both guilty of the outcomes we are seeing! Cheers!

The guy they have in custody is some other muckraker who was there. They found no weapon with him. Cheers!
-
This seems like the guy was a pro or planned it well. He took only one shot, packed up his rifle, and disappeared. They found no weapon on the roof...not sure if they found a shell casing or anything. No one saw him climb on to the roof, unlike the young shooter who tried to kill Trump. You could hear from the shot that it was a high powered rifle. We knew all of this stuff was coming years ago. The volume on the rhetoric has been turned to maximum from all sides. I don't think this will be the last either. Reminds me of the 60's and 70's. Some figure, on either side, was shot like every other month back then! Cheers!

Curse me Kilts!! What is the hell is point of any of it anyway?

100%! My Dad died young...I'd give up my entire bank account for just one more hug from him. I have a pool in my condo complex and my niece and nephew use it somewhat regularly...those memories are worth a fortune! But now that you have a pool, if you ever feel like such a splurge again...maybe do something smaller together. Also, at least you didn't waste it on a sports car! Cheers! -
You have no idea who shot him yet. Wasn't Kirk, along with MTG and other MAGA supporters asking for the release of more Epstein files until just a couple of days ago. It could be some looney Dem or some looney GOP member...or someone with no real political affiliation and just plain crazy. Rather than ranting and raving, try bringing peace and calm to the situation!

Yes, I agree with that. But that's why the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Supreme Court and laws in general are there. Equitable, fair enforcement. What do we do when a President starts to walk the boundaries of those safeguards? Cheers!
-
I'm not saying that it is. What I'm asking is at what point does his behavior become extreme enough to ask yourself that question? Is it bypassing the Constitution? Is it bypassing due process? Is it alienating global partners and allies? Is it tearing down our institutions rather than simply invoking policy changes? Is it when he starts locking up or exiling media personalities/owners he doesn't like? Is it when he militarizes states and cities? Is it when he starts to control and develop his own oligarchy? Or is it when he comes and knocks on your neighbor's house and imprisons him/her? Cheers!

73Reds, let me ask you something...as well as for Cubs, et al. Would you let Trump molest your wife or daughter, as long as he pushes through with his policies and mandate? I think we all know the answer to this question, unless your answer differs from mine...in that case, God help us! Cheers!

Or it could just be you are seeing what you want to see or extrapolating from one-offs. Cheers!

This is the biggest piece of crap I've read today and seems to be the acceptable norm these days. Cheers!

Because of 2007/2008...Great Financial Crisis. He had asked the regulatory board for Canadian mutual funds to allow his fund to buy credit default swaps like Fairfax was doing. By the time he received permission, markets were turning significantly and swap prices had started to rise dramatically. He never had the opportunity to buy them again. In hindsight, he probably would have been better off just moving more assets to cash since he saw what was going to potentially happen. Unfortunately he didn't and he got hit like all other funds. Cheers!

My best friend is hard-core MAGA...my uncle is a born-again Christian, hard-core MAGA...my other uncle is a Trump supporter, but not a born-again Christian. I have a number of nieces who are all in university...they are diverse (one is half-white, half Indian), another is Hindu-Sikh but of lighter skin, another is Hindu of darker skin, the last one is half Indian, half black going to school in the U.S. None have reported any sort of racial discrimination or bullying. I'm also very well connected to Simon Fraser University where half my family are students or Alumni, where a number of friends work, and I'm well-informed of what is happening there because of my contributions to the University Endowment. Again, no significant increase in racism or DEI activities that have deprived potential faculty or students. If it was that prevalent, there would be lawsuits and so far, there was just one lawsuit by an employee denied tenure he says because of his views on DEI...he lost the case in court. Not saying that racism doesn't exist...even that it isn't elevated...but any suggestion that is significantly higher doesn't match what me, my family and friends see. Cheers!

That was awesome! LOL! Cheers!

My group of friends are extremely diverse...much of my family is now extremely diverse as well. Very few of us today experience the type of racism that we faced when we were younger. The one area that I will say where racism has risen in the last couple of years and it's not just in Canada, but there has been a significant rise in hate crimes against Jewish people. Primarily since October 7th. I can't speak for your experience or your families, but I have a ton of Caucasian friends from various backgrounds...they too have not experienced any more racism compared to past years. So I'm not sure why your experiences vary so widely from ours. There is certainly more road rage today on the streets, and I would imagine at times that race is one of the things that gets brought up when two people are quarreling from their vehicles. Frankly, I don't know how many road rage incidents I've experienced in the last 5 years, but race never came up...it's the usual middle finger, fuck you and the last one was a hilarious one where the guy was pretending to do fellatio! I gave him the finger, but when he started doing that I just started cracking up and laughing at him! I'm sure he was trying to tell me "Blow me!", but it came off more like he was doing it to someone else...and I just couldn't stop laughing! Cheers!

Francis worked on and turned around insurance companies when he was a VP at Fairfax. Understanding insurance and actually running an insurance company are two different things. Also, Francis bought Stonetrust from Mohnish after Mohnish finished pouring money into it. Mohnish bought an under reserved insurance company...Francis bought a well-reserved insurance company. Lastly, Francis operates with a very prudent level of risk management in everything he does...whether it is his mutual funds, his personal wealth management, investment management, insurance management...he's a pure Ben Graham type of investor. I think if you compare the types of investments generally that Mohnish buys and his asset allocation, and you compare it to Francis, you will see there is more of a risk management, pure Ben Graham distressed asset type of philosophy at work with Francis. Cheers!

Have you ever been to China? Government policy might be one thing, but the citizens of China are no different than you or me...except for your adoption of Trump's cult of personality and probably the same for those that support Xi! They have zero interest in destroying the U.S. or getting American's hooked on drugs. Their primary goal is the same as most people...making a decent income, living a comfortable life, having food on the table and a roof over their head, good education, good health, being safe at home and in their country, and spending time with their family and friends. The destruction of the U.S. is the last thing on their mind! Cheer!

Immigration had some effect in the last few years when Trudeau increased the number of immigrant visas, but housing prices have been a huge problem in major cities for over 20 years. So blaming it on immigration is silly. In Vancouver, the primary problem is that we have limited room for development...you go up or you go out to the Fraser Valley, since we have two natural borders (mountains, ocean) and an artificial border (USA). Prices were exacerbated by speculation, rental stock being used as AirBNB's, foreign buyers (especially Chinese) and increased immigration. But to say that immigration is the consensus reason is incorrect...that has been one of the drivers only really in the last few years. Also, I've lived my whole life in Vancouver and travel all over Canada. Canada is by no means significantly more racist. If any additional animosity between races has appeared, it's because of the same sort of political divide and policy beliefs that exist in the U.S. rearing its ugly head in Canada to a lesser degree. I remember when my grandmother would walk me home from kindergarten and she would be wearing a sari. The high school kids from Kits High School would yell at her and me, telling her "Go back to India, Paki!" That happened at least once a week! That hasn't happened to a single member of my family in well over 30 years, including my grandmother who passed away a few years ago. So as a minority, and my family and friends are visible ones, racism while slightly elevated, is far, far lower than it was historically! Cheers!

https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/pub/71-607-x/71-607-x2024013-eng.htm As you can see, while hate crimes have increased over the last 11 years, they are no where near the numbers being stated in the previous article you posted. You're talking about 11 incidents per 100,000 population over a year! Also, the article above is about a specific hate crime at a temple...that doesn't mean we have hate crimes going on left, right and center. The articles you post are like the stupid stories that were saying Los Angeles was a war zone and riots were happening everywhere, which wasn't even remotely close to the truth. Try visiting a place in person and then seeing for yourself how safe or unsafe a city feels. Cheers!

That article is factually not accurate on a number of fronts: What happens on X is very different than what happens in the actual community...that huge increase in hate crime is not accurate. I live in Surrey, which is even bigger than Brampton in terms of Indian concentration...hate crimes are not that higher here than past years. There has been very high profile extortion cases across Canada by a specific criminal group (The Bishnoi Group) from India that are targeting Indian business owners...but that is about as prevalent as the existing gang violence across the country. The general consensus view in Canada on housing pricing in overpriced cities is not related to immigration as much as it is speculators buying multiple properties, foreign buyers with second homes, local buyers buying multiple homes to use as short-term AirBNB's rather than for local long-term rentals. No city in Canada is reducing Indian festivities...Vaisakhi parade in Surrey was as big as ever in 2025 and I have not seen a single woman not wear a bindi because she's fearful of racial attacks. Does this look like a city that is fearful and threatening to the Indian community?! https://www.surreyvaisakhiparade.com/ My mother and aunt went to a temple this evening for a funeral prayer of a family friend...they dressed in saris and had their tika on...no problem. They often go all over Vancouver to shop, eat out, visit friends and family...they've almost never run into any sort of racial slur or attack in well over 30 years. The racial prejudice was ten times greater in the 1970's and since has declined each decade as the population has become more diverse. My sister-in-law and her family are immigrant Sikhs. My family are Hindus from Fiji. We have thousands of friends and family of incredible diversity...few have encountered racial discrimination and it is far better than 30 or 50 years ago! My brother is profiled more when he goes through U.S. customs than any sort of racial discrimination in Canada. He gets pulled aside 50% of the time at U.S. customs. Cheers!

+1! And Trump is helping facilitate that! Cheers!

I totally agree with that. I was just pointing out that a good chunk of that factory's employees were illegal and aren't going to be working there anymore. I'm pretty sure there are a heck of a lot of plants around the U.S. doing the same thing. Cheers!

Looks like they must have put the money back in at some point...or perhaps I misunderstood and they never removed it. Regardless, I hope they use Francis even more long-term. Cheers!

Are you a snorer like me? Cheers!
