  1. Citigroup © 40% run in the last month, couldn't resist. Gotta take some bacon Santy Claus is coming regardless of covid ;)
  2. ratiman Merrill offers trailing stops. On trade page under order type.
  3. Sinclair Broadcast Group (SBGI) on recent run up last 3 weeks. NXST and GTN also had big moves but don't own these two. All three are major broadcasting companies.
  4. Only have had an account here (Merrill Edge) since the summer 2020. I do like all their research info. Have accounts elsewhere, don't believe in putting all my eggs in one basket ;) Was with Interactive Brokers for years, for trading they were good but had poor customer service. Did like them for tender offers though.
  5. Platform back up. Not sure what the problem was.
  6. Platforms been down all morning. Anyone use Merrill Edge?
  7. Banks? - As interest rates rise banks have bigger spread Energy/Oil? - Energy co's have pulled back in the past 2-3 months Health related?
  8. I have had an account with them for just a little over a year and have been pleased. Very easy to use and move money to and from bank account. Their gold account which is their version of a margin account charges flat monthly fee. Their cash account is free. Both account types have FREE trading.
  9. I believe Buffett has said he would be a buyer at book value plus 20%. Which would be $121 per share on class B shares. Hit 127 back in sept. Will have to put on radar.
  10. Anyone looking at AXP? Stock has come down since loosing Costco account. Looks somewhat cheap. Trading at 7 times free cashflow has p/e of 12 (5 year average of 16), Buffett on board.
  11. Probably not. As Benjamin Franklin once said, "In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes" Now if their were no trading commissions that would be a different story ;-)
  12. This reminds me of my friends Aunt, who past away back in the late 90's. Most of her wealth was made between 94-99 era. Her portfolio holdings were about 1.5mil in 94-95 and by 1998-99 over 4mil. A couple of her top holdings were sysco (syy) and coca cola (ko). She was a very cute old lady from Ireland that kept a pulse on the market. From what I new of her she lived a semi-frugal life while living in downtown Chicago. I'm guessing that the janitors wealth snow balled over the last 6 years.
  13. I guess XOM doesn't fall under this quote ;-) Buffett quote: “Our favorite holding period is forever.”
  14. Looks like Buffett or his Lieutenants bought back into Deere (DE). Decent size bet at 1.5bil. I'm thinking that this might be a Ted or Todd play.
  15. Are Jamnu, South Indian Banking, and GIC housing held within the Indian Basket? Thanks Notorious :)
  16. I'm curious to how much cash many of these guys keep on hand. For instance, Pabrai's Dalal Street, LLC latest filing had about 9 holdings totaling 413mil. How much cash is on the side line, that is not included in these SEC filings.
  17. Alleghany Corp. (Y) I have owned this one on and off for the last 7-8 years. Very similar to Berkshire Hathaway. An insurance holding company with a portfolio of about 60 stocks with a large bond portfolio. Has a rich and interesting history dating back to the late 1920's. Originally a railroad holding company controlled by the Van Sweringen Brothers out of Cleveland Ohio. Their top holdings as of last quarter were CVX V CSX WMB AAPL a sizable position in BNSF before Buffett ever bought in. Currently it trades slightly under book.
  18. Hi All, Are there more publicly traded HoldCo's out their? Was wondering if we could add to this list? -Berkshire Hathaway (BRKA/BRKB) -Fairfax Financial (FRFHF) -Markel (MKL) -Alleghaney Corp. (Y) -Leucadia National Corporation (LUK) -Biglari Holdings Inc. (BH) -Daily Journal Corp. (DJCO) -WL Ross Holding Corp. (WLRH) new holding company started by Wilbur Ross, not sure if this one qualifies yet. -Greenlight Capital Re, Ltd. (GLRE) Thanks
  19. Hi Frommi, Thats a concentrated portfolio you have. What percentage of cash do you hold in the portfolio? Like Patmo mentioned. How would you react to a large draw down on 2 or 3 of your holdings? What works for Michael Bury, Mohnish Pabrai, or even Warren Buffetts early partnership days might not work as well for an individual.
  20. Wow thats a quick reply oddball :) Yes names and basic stats. Texas, Oklahoma, & North Dakota are some of the larger producing oil states. I know their are a half dozen more. I see plenty of people looking at the oil/energy stocks do to the declines. Was wondering if others were looking at other industries that are following oil down.
