  1. This is what I think he is saying: Stock is cheap if interest rate stay below 4. Interest rate will stay low unless we lose control of inflation. We will have big inflation if we get big deficit. We will have large deficit if Tax cut didn't result in GDP growth (researches have shown little evidence it will). So, the stock market may become expensive if we get a tax cut that doesn't work.
  2. I wonder which bank will have the nuts to publish a sell ratings on Brk? It will be instant fame but high risky move.
  3. Interesting... I worked for BRCD many many years ago.. My millionaire dollar stock options were wiped out when the dot com bubble bursted, and CEO Greg Rayes (cousin of Ex Google CFO) went to trial for back dating stock options :) BRCD had two different ceos since and most people I knew there have left. It was a great company with a very interesting group of people till they all got very rich (except me and others who joined at around the same time) and retired. The parking lot used to be filled with many Ferrari and a senior manager came to work using helicopter ( he lived at top of a mountain facing pacific sea) Their fibre channel business is hard to be replaced but is slowing dying. They moved aggressively to gigabit Ethernet but it is a much more competitive space.
  4. Why freezing credit will increase auto insurance cost?
  5. I am not sure anyone would be interested in Bridgewater's management system. If you go to glassdoor.com and read the employee reviews, you will wonder if this is one of the most-hated-by-employees companies. IMO, I think its bad culture can only be matched by that of Goldman Sachs. To give you an example, people at Bridgewater attend small-team classes daily/weekly to study Ray's book "The Principle". Employees need to study it like religions, and there are homework assignments and frequent tests. It's like a brain wash. In the meetings, employees need to criticize each other. It's a must. Your bonus depend on it. You get points when you "dot" someone. "Dot" means write bad reviews in their internal "facebook", and give 1-2 stars... Even if you are a senior manager, for example, and your computer is broken and you ask IT to come to fix it, the IT could "dot" you, on reasons such as "no advance notice so they had to work under a tight timeline". Of course, you could dot back. But you can't dot back to revenge. You have to find something else. Having said that, I think Ray is a great person and very talented and hardworking. I am just not sure about his management culture and the "Principles" (p.s. I am not an ex-employee. I heard these from others)
  6. I used to play poker. But now I am learning to play bridge, inspired by WEB. I am reading books and signed up for a class for beginners. It is said keeping your brain alertitive will also help extend your life.
  7. Thanks. There are some websites such as crowdfunder.com etc. Has anybody tried to invested this way?
  8. Hi, Just curious is there a way for retail investor to invest in early stage companies directly? Examples are venture capital for computer technology companies, etc.. I guess one way is to going though the private wealth departments at various banks? Do they offer specific companies or people have to invest in funds? And what's the fee is like? Do I have to let them charge a percentage of my entire asset (or a minimal asset number) to be able to invest?
  9. He bought for Berkshire Wfc and bac first. Later,he bought Jpm for his personal account because he ran out of banks to buy (interesting he didnt mention citi). CNBC asked him why he didn't buy Jpm earlier for Berkshire, he said Wfc are better..
  10. Buffett said he bought JPM in his personal account and that's because berkshire dont have it so there is no conflicts of interest. So he will not be buying jpm with berkshire money. We wont know his jpm trading in his personal account because there will be no filings..
  11. If Kim is killed by a US rocket, I think North Korean will cheer instead of retaliate, and elect a new leader and start diplomatic relationship with US. ;D
  12. Imo: China and north korea are on the same side. They may be encouraging NK acting this way. North korea is china's dog. You dont beat the dog. You talk to the master. I think likely china helped north korea with nuclear tech. China uses north korea as a bargain power. The strategy should be give more pressure to china. How about this:. If north korea fire another missile, freeze all the US assets of chinese senior officers or/and their relative. Or, alternatively, threaten to send Xi a list of all such assets. Lol
  13. So what Feds can come up with now. Berkshire not allowed to use AXP cards? lol
  14. Why Buffett thinks Berkshire will do better in higher interest rate (but he also said higher interest rate is not good for stock mkt)?
  15. I think Buffett is saying stock market is effected by the long term interest rate expectations, which is maybe 4%. In the short term he expect rate will rise, but the question is what the rate will be in the long term. If we cut tax and increase spending , and thus caused inflation which results a much higher long term interest rate, than that's not good.
  16. I wondering if company like this is legal? Effective the CEO and certain executives can have access to information that's never available to public investors. SEC shall ask such information be published with delays (same as 13F) and watch for anybody who get access to this information and trade on it.
  17. The main site (index.html) was up , the forum site was down. It appears to me the database is down or corrupted. It's not a network or website problem, might be the database is locked up
  18. Buffett said the stock market will be higher in TEN Years IF the interest rate stay LOW. He didnt say it's cheap , he even said aapl is high. He said stock is Cheap IF rate stay here
