  1. @Marco Van BastenIt looks like Holcim announced their intent to make a tender offer for CPAC. Any idea what price they will offer?
  2. @kh812000 Are you still holding AMPG after the price run up? Thanks for the idea, I'm up 70% on it.
  3. I thought I would create a thread for special situations. Please post if you have any that seem interesting. Below are some of the ones I am following: LQDA (Liquidia) - Biotech with a pending lawsuit that is suppressing the stock price. Very deep analysis in the LQDA thread. Thanks to @whatstheofficerproblem CPAC (Cementos Pacasmayo) - Peruvian law requires Holcim to bid for the remainder of the company in the near future. Thanks to @Marco Van Basten AIRG (Airgain) - Timothy O'Connell has taken an activist position GDOT (Green Dot) - Currently a bank with a fintech component inside. Fintech is in the process of going private and (assuming this all goes through) GDOT shareholders will receive $8.11/share for that. The real value should be in the low basis in the remaining publicly traded BaaS focused bank. The primary risk here is that the transaction is pending regulatory approval. There is a recently started thread and thanks to @wabuffo MTYFF (MTY Food Group) - Undergoing a strategic review. I can't remember exactly who was posting about this. Maybe @moatrep? WBD (Warner / Skydance merger) - I am not touching this with a ten foot pole, but I did make a very good return on a decently sized position in Netflix when they were the initial winner and tanked earlier this year. Anyone know of other situations?
  4. Anyone have ideas in this arena? Some stuff I've come across lately: BBY - With the recent decline, the yield is 6.5%. They also bought back some shares last year, so I have buyback yield at 2.2%. I have a Total Yield of 7.3% (tax adjusted, I'm assuming a 20% tax rate on dividends for the Total Yield figure). HPQ - Dividend Yield = 6%, Total Yield = 8.6% A few others that I follow that have high total yield, but don't meet the 6.0% dividend yield that the thread requires: BBWI - Div Yield = 4.4%, Total Yield = 9.5% BAH - Div Yield = 3%, Total Yield = 7.3% HRB - Div Yield = 5%, Total Yield = 8.4%
  5. CONGRATULATIONS!!! It is definitely draining early on, but very much worth the effort. It’s not rocket science, just be really patient and think about things from their perspective and their future perspectives as you make decisions. I came from the camp of “I don’t like kids and never want to have kids.” But as soon as my wife found out she was pregnant, that all went out the window. And when he was born, it was obvious that it was going to be the best thing that ever happened to me. One thing to keep in mind is that, if you’re like me, you will end up REALLY (and I mean extremely) missing the era when they were a “baby” (from like 6 months to 3 yrs old). That’s a hard time and you’re tired all the time, but I look back now and I’d pay a lot of money to be able to go back in time and just play with him for a day when he was a toddler.
  6. Thanks. I didn’t know that about Peruvian law.
  7. I haven’t been following this. Have they announced that they’re going to buy the remainder? What is the 20% spread referencing? Sorry if those are obvious questions.
  8. New Yorker profile of Altman: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2026/04/13/sam-altman-may-control-our-future-can-he-be-trusted
  9. My understanding is that Fairfax could likely be considered a PFIC for a US investor.
  10. I am somewhat in this camp. I say somewhat, because I already own a very small amount. I would definitely buy more if a drawdown occurs. But I’m in the US and, by my understanding, it only really makes sense for me to own it in a tax-free account. So, while I would buy more, I am externally constrained on how much I own (by how much tax-free buying power I have).
  11. It’s a classic. It also maintains the high quality throughout all seasons of the show.
  12. I read about GDOT a few weeks ago here. It’s down from when he was pitching it. https://clarkstreetvalue.blogspot.com/2026/01/green-dot-creating-standalone-baas-bank.html?m=1
  13. Agreed. I’ve seen it twice now as well. Great throughout. The score is also outstanding, absolutely top tier music. I bought the soundtrack after I watched it the first time.
  14. There are several of these retail companies that are aggressively buying back shares. PVH, BBWI, ANF, COLM, GIII to name a few. I’ve had a basket of the names for about 6 months now. I need to look at PVH again. I did look at them initially when I was researching this stuff but can’t remember why that one didn’t make the cut. But the price has fallen so it might make more sense now. If there are others in this vein (strong FCF and commitment to buybacks), I’d love to hear suggestions.
  15. I had a similar wired tv remote as a kid, but not as shiny:
  16. Wow that makes me feel old. I remember getting our first PC when I was a kid and getting Encarta. I probably read every single entry on that CD. Despite having a full set of (probably 20 year old at the time) encyclopedias. The encyclopedias were toilet reading for me as a kid. My favorite thing about one of those Encarta CDs was that it had a feature where you could make it audibly pronounce the word in question. And for some reason, the word “horseshit” was deemed worthy of inclusion in the word bank. I would spam the word with the speakers on max volume, which my mom didn’t appreciate. I can even still remember the way the guy pronounced “horseshit” and I frequently say it with that intonation while my wife questions my sanity.
  17. 5 for me - Listened to a CD - VHS (happened to be backing up old family videos) - Used paper map (hiking) - Own a dictionary (for Scrabble games) - Paid with a check
  18. I’m under 50, but I’m at 19. Maybe 20. I’m not sure I ever used a rotary phone. I know I’ve touched one as a kid, but not sure I ever called anyone on one. And I’ve used both small hard floppy discs and the big floppy discs that were actually floppy.
  19. Yeah, just wondering if there is something specific for JPXGY. None of the other exchanges I hold are down that much. Some are up.
  20. I didn't know L'Amour had non-western books. Walking Drum sounds interesting. I'm always looking for good historical fiction.
