Post your Value Blogs

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I've got a collection of value blogs that I'm subscribed to.  I was hoping for:

a) people on the board who have a blog to post a shameless plug for themselves

b) any other awesome value blogs I should have

The ones I've got are:

http://widemoatinvesting.wordpress.com/

http://investorsanthology.blogspot.com/

http://variantperceptions.wordpress.com/

http://canadianvalueinvesting.blogspot.com/

http://mevsemt.blogspot.com/

http://www.oddballstocks.com/

http://stevensfund.com/  (this one is mine, and it doesn't have much content yet, but I'll throw it in)

Haha!!! This already looks like a post on reddit. I will tell you a way on how to find many blogs.

1. Go to one of the blogs you posted and look on the sidebar for sections titled "blogroll", "affiliates", etc.

2. Go through ones you find interesting by exploring it and either you choose it or not. (Don't forget to add to rss reader)

3. ????

4. profit

Profit?!?!?!  Obviously you're not talking about the blog writers.... If there's a profit in there somewhere I still haven't figured where it's hiding.

If I wanted a profitable blog I'd probably be writing about celebrity sightings, new Mac products, or extreme couponing......

Racemize, thanks for the plug on my site, I appreciate it.

Radio Free Cash Flow, fascinating site, I bookmarked it (I'm old school, no RSS for me) seems like we might cross paths on stocks some.

I meant profit from the investment ideas that bloggers write up about. Also it is a reference to reddit (I understand many users don't use it). The reference stems from the users, who write steps on how do something and usually its joking around. The last two steps include "????" and "profit".

I was being serious with the first two steps that is how I find most of the blogs to add in my rss reader.

I'd be very happy if you would give mine a look.

Interesting site.  I always enjoy anything related to unlisted stocks.  I have owned three and written about 3 of the 5 you posted back in 2004 in Walker's Manual Unlisted Newsletter, and also attended an annual meeting of another (APTL).  Steel is on my list of things to research.  I'll bookmark it and definitely check in periodically.

I appreciate the positive feedback.

Oddballstocks, I am a fan of your blog and I check it often. I think you're right about us frequently checking out the same stocks. For instance, I've been watching LICT for a couple years. The price keeps trending down and the FCF yield looks better and better. At some point, I may have to buy in.

Tim, I own a copy of Walker's Manual (2003, I think?) and it's an amazing resource. It must feel good to have contributed to such a valuable effort. How I wish a new edition would be published! I have developed my own database of a few hundred mostly profitable OTC/pink sheets companies that I update regularly and mine for ideas.

hardcorevalue.com is a new one that I've just found also, looks interesting.

startingat22.blogspot.com, I bookmarked you just this week. :)

Looks like I'll have a couple more from this thread on my list too.

Wow, my number of RSS feeds just tripled! Thanks for asking people to post value blogs! Makes me want to blog more often. In about a month and a half, I'll be done university and won't have to feel guilty in my free time for not doing school work :)

I purchased LICT and am about break-even when you consider the ICTC spin-off.  It is cheap on a FCF basis and hopefully has a catalyst in the ownership Mario Gabelli has.  He thinks this is a buggy whip company so it will be interesting to see what he does with this.  From the latest data it is trading at 3.9x EBITDA and 5.6x FCF.  They are trading at a discount to the RLEC cos with the exception of HCOM.  The main issue I have had is liquidity.  It is easy to get in but not out.

I'll have to try these out.  I read some of these, and used to read more until google phased out rss feeds in gmail.  Hopefully they don't phase out google calendar or I'll never remember another birthday again.

I also read these

frankvoisin

barelkarsan

distressed debt investing (never have any idea what he's talking about, but  hope to someday)

haha yeah, I also read it but most of the time I'm clueless on what exactly is discussed. Most of my sites I have in my rss-reader are already mentioned I think, but I do like to add this one: http://csinvesting.wordpress.com/ It's not about individual stocks, but more about the investing process itself. How to value a business, think about competitive advantages and more.

I also blog @ http://alphavulture.com. Mostly on companies I've bought or considered buying.
