Dave86ch Posted November 27 Posted November 27 Hello everyone, I’m from Switzerland, and counterintuitively, our banking system doesn’t work as expected—it’s actually getting worse. Banks here focus on limiting your ability to invest, hoping you’ll rely on them and their advisors instead. I’m looking for a reliable broker where I can put my capital, sleep well at night, and still have full freedom to maneuver in the market. Any suggestions? Is Interactive Brokers a good option?

Yes, IB is the best option out there for EU citizens, with the cheapest margin, cheapest fees, reasonable customer service, and global access. Nothing comes close, and that's a shame that there isn't more competition, but IB is working very well for me, and I can recommend it.
thowed Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I thought Swissquote was pretty decent? But IB generally best.

I confirm that statement - I use DeGiro & IB, for me both valid options, but have bit more confidence in IB (subjective).

Reliable, low cost, safe. I think it currently pays higher interest on my cash balance than 12 month term deposit at my local bank:), currency conversion is also basically free vs like 1-2 percent at bank. The only better option perhaps would be to have an account at IBUS instead of IBIE, but I am not sure it is possible to do from Europe, at least using IB directly.
Spooky Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I'm not a European but I use IB and it is exceptionally good and much better than the other options I have tried in Canada. Good rates on currency conversion, good interest rates on cash you park there, flexible and seems pretty secure. Only downside is it can be hard to easily look at dividends received and such but I set up a custom report which works alright.
