Just a brief note of remembrance for a great investor, gentleman, and good friend. He was a brilliant investor, of course, but much more than that to those who knew him.

Condolences to his family, loved ones, and all at the Ruane, Cunniff & Goldfarb.

I'm sorry to hear that. The guys at Sequoia are an outstanding bunch.

Yes, you will see a nice writeup in the nyt today or tomorrow. Ruane Cunniff is a small family, and even those who have not been there for many years( I was 1982-1985 or so) have been extended family throughout our whole lives. I will tell one story for those who might be interested(feel free to skip if not interested):

On the day of the 1987 crash, Rick was purchasing stock for clients. At the end of the day, the losses were so great that he took the positions into his own account, at terrible prices, because he didn't feel that he could ethically give them to his clients. The losses were too great. Eventually the prices rebounded because the investments were wise, but I relate this story to show you how ethics were first and foremost with Rick.
