Trump is going to have to use the Epstein files to distract from the jobs report.
-
You should do it and quit after you collect the $20k signing bonus. Free money. No work.

73 was the one who argued that the tariffs were to stop others from taking advantage of the US. Trump is not extracting more revenues from other countries. The tariff revenues are paid by US importers. None of the "investment" amounts touted are real or will likely ever occur. And keep.in mind the argument for the tariffs in the first place (and the entire legal justification) is fentanyl. Are we getting a lot of fentanyl from the UK and Japan?

Klarmans returns have been pretty poor over the past 5-10 years from what I can find. I cant tell if its law of large numbers, whether the markets have changed, whether he's lost his edge or what the issue is. He used to be in the same stratosphere as Renaissance but not any more. I wonder if there's a point where he just closes up the fund and either retires or plays for fun. Edit: posted right as @munger_disciple was posting so some overlap and answers from him.

No, that's not how it works. The China company offers the toy for $10 to any buyer anywhere in the world. Thats their price. Walmart or a toy distributor in the US agrees to buy 1000 of them. When the boat arrives in the US port Walmart pays $2500 to the US govt in tariffs and $10000 to the Chinese company for the toys. Unless the manufacturer is also the importer they never pay the tariffs.
-
Your example is exactly the point i was making. The importer pays the tariff not the exporter. If demand goes down because of elasticity, there's less product purchased and less tariff paid. But the tariffs are paid by the importer (and usually passed ongoing to their customer).

Dude, youre so gone in the cult I rarely look at your posts because there's no independent thought. Only regurgitation of the party line and worship.
-
How many times do I have to frame it. Please explain how the UK was taking advantage of the US but now taxing US consumers on British imports by 15% fixes that.
-
If youre arguing a position that you can't explain solely because it was put forth by Trump, that's a cult.
-
Theres no signed deal. Its a framework. But again, please explain how this fixes them taking advantage of the US.
-
They didnt make a deal, they have a framework for a deal. But please explain how this fixes them taking advantage of the US. Oh and how canada is taking advantage of the US by operating under the very deal that Trump signed in his first term. That deal was unfair?
-
Walk me thru how the UK is "taking advantage" of the US on trade. We have a trade surplus with the UK. How does taxing US consumers 15% solve the problem?
-
Tariffs, by definition, are paid by the importer. Every single $ of tariff is a check written by the importing company in the US. Can exporters reduce prices to offset the cost for the importer? Yes they can but now they're selling for lower prices for no additional benefit - a price that non US buyers will demand. Ultimately, not only will the tariffs be passed along to consumers but even the amounts eaten by importers thru lower profits are offset by local producers raising prices because they can.

For 2 and 3 - there are no trade deals. None. There are frameworks and discussions but thats not the most important thing at all. Actually signing a deal is. Until then its just talk. Imagine being a small business (or big.business) trying to order goods and price your product when the tariffs seem to change weekly. Thats why the end dates (90 days or Aug 1st) were important - because u knew youd have answers. Instead there's no deals and even the August 1st got extended 90 days. 4 is historic and not relevant today For 5 obviously ChatGPT is counting announcements not signed deals.

When rape and pedophilia are not a red line for you youre in a cult.
-
Have you found the trade deal that was signed yet? You claimed it was all conspiracy that I was skeptical. So where's the signed trade deals despite multiple times claiming there was one
-
I care about Epstein because our President was besties with a convicted pedophile and is now desperately doing anything he can to avoid the files coming out. Why? Does that not concern you?
-
Ironically, I'm not even a Liberal, I'm a former Republican. But the party that I used to vote for is gone. Lower deficits? Nope. Open up international trade? Nope. Less government in business? Nope. Freedom of.the press? Nope. And now twisting into pretzels to find a reason to not release Epstein files - the exact thing he promised many times. You have to wonder why.
-
There was actually a framework for the UK deal and that was never signed. Then Japan just last week. And now there's no agreement there. What about 90 deals in 90 days? That was what 110 days ago? Let's see if anything actually get signed or its just another press release.
-
Well, except for the actual deal part. Theres none of those. And TACO again on China. Things haven't collapsed yet is not the flex on leadership you think it is. Wheres those Epstein files he promised?
-
You're the one who said that the denials are all conspiracies. So what deals have actually been signed? Where's the conspiracy?
-
When you claim the "its not real" conspiracy theory, can you point to a trump trade deal on tariffs that has been real? Including his claim on the Japan deal last week that Japan is saying is not the deal. Or the 90 deals in 90 days? Or the UK deal that never happened? Or the "August 1st, no extensions!" Claim that just today has another 90 days for China?
-
I'd put the chance of no deal much higher than that. There hasn't been a single deal done yet. Even the Japan "deal" announced this week is only verbal and Japan is disagreeing with most of the terms that were claimed by Trump.
-
@73 Reds fully agree with u there.

The man has the lowest approval rating in the history of the presidency. He's underwater on immigration (!!!!), economy, tariffs, etc. etc. And these include the republican pollsters too. The only ones who think hes doing a great job are people who are deep into the koolaid and live on Fox News.
