Hi All, Sears and Autonation take the top 2 spots. Both are controlled by Ed Lampert and both are buying back shares like crazy. Also both have deep pockets behind them besides Lampert. Sears has Tisch and Berkowitz as major holders and for Autonation Bill Gates owns a ton of shares (through Cascades Investments and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) and is also representated on the board. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-09-10/largest-s-p-500-short-interest-as-a-percentage-of-float.html I personally think whoever is shorting these shares is going to lose, but that is what makes a market! Hi All, I can't seem to find it but previously there was a question posted on the Ally Financial 7% Preferred. I can't seem to find a tricker symbol for this. Any idea? Cheers Michael

I thought about that for a quick second as well Sanjeev. However with holders like Ackman and Peltz, Sardar would certainly not get this for a cheap price. Which would make me think he won't be inclined to do it. Howver I have been wrong ebofre and I will be wrong again, and it would actually be very interesting to see him try and take a compnay away from Peltz and Ackman for a bargain price. Cheers Michael

I was wondering if anyone has been following the General Growth proceedings. I have been following however I am pretty limited in the sense that I am not firmiliar with how the bankruptcy system works. With the Pershing and Fairholme injection at $15 for the combination of enties, how would one figure out the downside? For instance paying the current pps of $14.75 is my downside the $9 that Simon had offered or since the $15 has come into play by Ackamn would like be the new downside and thereore it turns into an arb play? (15-14.75) Any clarity to this situation would be extremely helpful. Cheers Michael

Any ideas on how to short this housing bubble? I don't see anything besides taking a short positions in the banks. Cheers Michael

The WSJ atricle touches on hard numbers that a potential franchisee will face. "Franchises must pay an initial fee of $30,000 for the franchise and $3,000 a month in brand license fees for the first year and $2,000 monthly thereafter. A service license fee of 2% of prior year revenue is charged after the first year, and franchisees contribute 3% of net revenue to a marketing fund to support national advertising and activities. Alot of people are sounding the alarm on a Canadian housing bubble, the latest being one of Canada's largest money managers. http://www.montrealgazette.com/business/Housing+bubble+forming+Canada+Jarislowsky+says/2556185/story.html Cheers Michael

This is my take on it. AZO, AN and SHLD pretty much have 3 boards all with EL's people in place. I believe he wants to combine all 3 companies. If he were to merge AN and AZO into SHLD, his votes would be void and there is a conflict of interest and the vote would need to be passed by the majority of the minority shareholders. What he has done now in distributing the shares to his partners is giving them the ability to vote for the merger as Lampert now effectively doesn't control their shares and votes. Please provide any feedback if you would like. Cheers Michael

Just out of curiosity, will the BNI options still trade after the merger or will they be cancelled? Cheers Michael -

Eddie Lampert and his firm have given 29% net to investors from the various reports I have heard since 1988. Net! Depending on the type of agreement he is on 1 and 20 or 6 % hurrdle Im not sure but the gross returns in that time period have been massive. Besides asking Eddie at an annual meeting I would be interested to see actual hard numbers. I am actually surprised someone has not asked this question at a Sears AGM. If anyone has heard of anything different please let me know! Cheers Michael

I seen the bid was 0.05 as I wrote the original message however the price has been in the last few days. I sold a small amount of puts at 0.25 on Nov. 17. It is a very good possibility that with the release of the Q today investors realized that the situation wasn't as bad as first thought. Cheers Michael

Hi All, I'm not sure if anyone on this board has seen this but there is a market for SHLD Jan 2011 put with a stike of $5. For Sears to get to $5 there would have to be a major permanant imparement, which has a very low probability of happening with Lampert at the helm and especially within a years timeframe. Has anyone taken a look at this or can poke a hole in my thinking? Cheers Michael
