  1. Seriously, is there not some law we can make to have them not be part of our parliament, allowed on committee etc etc if it is clear what is their mandate?

That's why Cactus Jack wants proportional representation.  He argued that the Bloc received 1.3M votes and has 51 seats, yet team Green had 1M votes and has no seats.

Do you think proportional rep is a good thing? Im asking honestly. To me, I think it is. I mean, even the green party is being treated like shit and I gotto tell ya, i think they have more brains than the bloc.

  2. Coalition: NDP prime minister with liberal cabinet ministers included.  Ignatieff will have to resign.  Harper will have to resign for losing the government... finally.  No change in general economic policy except gradual deficit reduction.  Northern European Countries run successful coalitions regularly.  There is no reason to suggest Canada cound not successfully do the same.

Im really not happy with any of the parties but it scares me to think that people get scared by Harper talking about a COALITION govt.. like its not something we have had for the last how many years anyway. Who cares who gets to visit the Queen.

  3. Hey there Hab fan,

Dont feel bad - Leaf fan here :'(

I would add an option to your poll - say put in a Coalition (though I hate that term) Lib/NDP govt cause i think thats what it will be barring the drama of a "Prime Minister".

Like it or not, they will prob be the group with the votes to push through the bills.

Thats what i think will happen.

  4.

Im no quake expert but the continuous after shocks in the 7s.. this cant be normal even for a Earthquake prone region, can it?

I really feel for the souls over there, yes, I know they are catastrophe hardenend but these continued after shocks in addition to the radiation threats moving people out further and further.

    My heart goes out.

  5. For example, on  Prince Edward Island we see more and more people moving here to

I really do want to get to visit your province one of these days. My sister in laws family is from there - I hear nothing but marvelous things of there and NL.

Hope to see you Soon ;D

  6. If the big shots give too much importance on what they will look like because of a given quarter results, it's a little bit like someone who would come at a fine dining restaurant and ask for a cheesburger.  ;)

Im speaking through experience -that in fact does happen

  7. Easy there with the holier than though posts please.

Unbecoming of a message board? ::) Some people are taking themselves a little to seriously.

Perhaps re read the beginning of the post " Ok, take it for what it is worth as this is just top of my head computing but,"

I know there is something in the bible about casting stones but..

  8. One does remember when 1B in cash was just a dream and that the 1 with a B number is not so large in the big picture anymore (or as it once was) so perhaps one has answered ones own question?

Disclaimer: If this post made zero sense I apologize as i am writing under sleep deprivation ;D

  9. The exchange rate rate USD/CAD has to be taken into account, but even when this is worked in, the price to book ratio has on average  been over one when measured at year end.

From page 213 in Fairfax' annual report 2010 (PPS is closing price in CAD):

    A couple things:

You can forget about avgs when going back from inception because alot of those days are done - in addition, I remember from experience quite a few of those years when the numbers were all but evident they had good financials yet the price was below/par BV. When the numbers did come out -it was reflected back closer to par +. That is what i am saying here really, just in reverse.

  10. Ok, take it for what it is worth as this is just top of my head computing but,

for those like me, who have owned this company (off and on) for a decade plus, the current over BV for FFH currently, knowing (estimate of course) they will prob be taking another hit on the Q1 number yet we are going over BV right now is bewildering. Ive sat on the company when they had nothing but good numbers and they were way (relatively speaking) under book.

IMO, the pension funds through the hedges funds are really reaching here - the only explanations i can up with. Im not saying paying over book for FFH wont work out in the long run, Im just saying that the majority of players out there dont have a long term plan.

This stuff just makes me say "huh?"

    That is all  ;D
