No I mean fighting for the voting rights for Black americans and fighting against the segregation of Black americans. Or was that a mistake like supporting Fidel? I guess the massive wealth disparity in the US is simply because people don't work hard enough. Oh but all those hard working immigrants? Deport em. That tiny dark-brown sliver at the bottom? Those are the 50% of Americans (~175,000,000 people) who are just lazy as hell, apparently.

https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/analysis-opinion/supreme-court-must-explain-why-it-keeps-ruling-trumps-favor In the first 20 weeks of Trump’s second term, the administration sought emergency action by the Court 19 times — the same number of requests made by the Biden administration over four years, according to Georgetown law professor Steve Vladeck. And the Court has sided with the administration nearly every time. To date, the Court has sided with the administration without offering any analysis in seven cases — including major rulings that allowed the administration to strip temporary legal status from hundreds of thousands of immigrants and summarily deport migrants to countries where they have no connection, including war zones. Most other shadow docket rulings include only cursory analysis.

We may disagree on the details but that gets a thumbs-up from me.

But to clarify, we do have common ground: I do support targeted trade restrictions on other regimes which don't play nice. But that I think is not what Trump is doing (as you acknowledge) And on Bernie - I agree if you take his policies to the extreme they will collapse. So will pure laissez-faire capitalism. So there is a middle-ground on which we need to balance. Which is why I support him with the caveat that a contradicting congress and judicial system will dull the edges of his extreme policies. I do think the wealth pendulum has fund too far in one direction and there needs to be some government re-allocation. I simply don't enjoy walking around the USA with poor, drug-addicted, homeless who our country has failed and let rot under the guise of capitalism and MAGA, when in reality it is greed, corruption, and plain ole theft at the very top.

I don't buy the protectionist angle. It hasn't worked historically, and it's simply anti-capitalism. And for a political party which claims to embrace capitalism, it's especially ironic. I also don't see how tariffs on mexico, europe, and canada are going to stop chinese IP theft. Further I mean, we already do protect key industries. Nvidia chips is a good example of how we can protect IP if we actually want to. The harsh truth is that we are better off importing low-cost human capital manufactured goods and exporting high-cost services. Trump saw the juice there to squeeze, and imposes a tax on that system for the benefit of his cronies. Finally - to your point 3, I agree with you but that is not what Trump is doing. A picture is worth a thousand words, in this instance. Gotta love our American troops on their knees in front of Putin and his security contingent, rolling out the red carpet for our war-crime comrades:
-
I am confused - if your contention with Bernie is that he will inevitably lead to higher taxes on the middle class, where is your outrage at the current President who has effectively done just that?
-
I disagree on Bernie. He has "walked the walk", so to speak. His history of fighting for civil and human rights is unimpeachable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_Sanders https://medium.com/@ShaunKing/you-dont-really-know-who-bernie-sanders-was-in-the-1960s-79628016125f You may not agree with his policies, but to imply he is some sham who has been "leeching" off the political machine is simply ignorant. As to his net worth he probably has a few million. And at 83 years old, and when 1 of 15 Americans is a millionaire, this is not the insult you imagine it to be. I would bet a large portion of this website are wealthier than Bernie, but lack the 60+ years of fighting for civil rights.
-
3M net worth is top 10%. Why do you think he's a moron?
-
Bummer, I estimated you as more thoughtful than coming to this conclusion.
-
Because they’re stacked with republican picks currently - so they’re good at buffering against democrat-led policies, but they roll over for their own party policies.
-
No clue about Mandani or NYC politics anymore, but re: Sanders If he won in 2016 we'd be looking at a much better state of America vs today - if for the very reason that he is the only politician I actually think wouldn't use the office for the gain of himself/ his cronies. And I think congress/courts would buffer more extreme policies. For example - one of his big platforms is reduced military spending, reduced healthcare costs. IMO his approach to cutting expenses in those areas would be more thoughtful vs. the DOGE approach (honestly, couldn't be worse). to the larger question: ultimately why is someone like Bernie needed? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wealth_inequality_in_the_United_States People hear socialism and start frothing at the mouth. But they have no problem with Trump taxing US consumers via tariffs to fund massive tax cuts for the 1%. So the issue with Bernie is not a policy problem, it's a marketing problem.

Interesting they bought a few more Japanese names https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/3649.T/ https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/8876.T/ https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/3182.T/ https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/6184.T/

You see cubs, your buddies in the white house are doing everything in their power to get to these kids:
-
Also, try reading some disconfirming research: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/07/16/trump-false-claim-missing-immigrant-children/ Reads a lot more plausibly than the testimony of an ex-border patrol who resorts to hyperbole, going around trying to sell his t-shirts or whatever he's shilling.
-
You're looking at the wrong ex-president to try and pin child trafficking claims on. And - I'll throw my two cents here as well: i'll take a cummins over that chevy small block
-
There was no girl...it was police officers posing as a young girl...I guess that pervert spent too much time daydreaming about TDS to know the difference To the larger point, yeah when you've got hundreds of thousands fleeing a hellhole at once, it's logistical nightmare to manage. And do we really expect them to show up to a court date to be deported back to poverty and crime? One can blame Biden for allowing them in, if it's that easy ignoring the humanitarian claims of children. But when there's minimal HHS budget and a republican congress against you, the alternative was even worse. I wouldn't expect MAGA to make those hard choices, though. Easier to just ignore the problem.
-
Not sure what you're referencing with 'changing laws' but I thought ICE was doing a great job with reasonably budget. Now we've got these goofy masked "agents" running around using the constitution as a tissue.
-
Here - might've found one of those trafficked minors you are so worried about: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/20/justin-eichorn-minnesota-republican-charges Turns out "she" was being solicited by the MAGA congressman who wrote the trump derangement bill. Is this MAGA just trying to have it both ways? Unfortunately I think so
-
The real humanitarian crisis was the ghettos they were escaping. They are as "missing" as any illigal immigrant who doesn't show up to a court date (to get deported). If you're so concerned with their wellbeing you should have petitioned the pedo leader to fund HHS, not ICE.
-
Might want to do some research on where that 300k number comes from. https://www.oig.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/assets/2024-08/OIG-24-46-Aug24.pdf
-
Just ask Trump where they are, he has tons of experience working with and paying sex traffickers.
-
@RichardGibbons didn't you know that tariffs are actually pro-capitalism? the trick is to nestle yourself so deep into Trump's black hole that up is down and down is up. And if you're ever in doubt - blame Obama!
-
We talk about how you can't take Trump at his word...well there's one thing you can always count on Quick Donnie for: running a grift
-
I mean, you pose the question like the Trump admin is doing this altruistically for the good of the nation's checkbook. No, it's being done to fund his grift.
-
I agree, and Trump is using tariff revenue to partially offset the giant deficits he is creating, which are going to tax cuts for the 1% and probably his cronies supplying ICE et al. How is this being paid for? Tariffs, which are primarily paid for by the middle and lower classes.
