Well, Buffett is just shy of 20% and he is only the greatest investor of all time.
-
"All that you need"? Speaking for all us buy-and-hold Schleppers who live on the other side of the tracks, I can't stop laughing. Thanks for making my day!
-
So...... counting all the activist billionaires on this board. Anyone? A CAGR "much higher" than FFH's 18.4% since inception would place you in rare air. Call me skeptical, LOL.
-
Of course. It all comes down to judgment. Determine what/who is important and what/who is not. But still waiting for any analysis more compelling and informative than Viking's assessment of Fairfax.
-
That goes directly back to how management treats shareholders.
-
For me this is a simple play. The airport is their main asset and presumably the value is growing by the month. For shareholders to realize value we need a catalyst, i.e. the IPO. You gotta either trust management or you don't. If you do, its easy to buy shares at these prices. Otherwise, its an easy pass.

True but IV is still "trapped" inside the entity for all the reasons cited.
-
Yeah its a value trap. Size it accordingly. When/if the CEO starts loading up, so should we.
-
Its not an "either/or" thing of course, we can rely on others and do our own thinking at the same time. Comfort is purely subjective and not necessarily financially lucrative.
-
Yeah, but I want to hear from that some other poster about that some other stock.

OK. But anyone here who feels like they have a better handle on their picks than Viking has on Fairfax, please share your picks and thoughts.
-
Perhaps, but someone please explain how a company that has grown BV 18%+/year since inception with no end in sight that remains one of the cheapest companies in its sector is not worth owning by members of a forum dedicated to investing in such companies. And then let us know how much better your *worst* picks have done. By my measure we should have a lot of billionaires (at least in the making) here!

@dealraker 5 legacy holdings haven't changed (BRK, MSFT, HD, WMT and AAPL). The investment thesis for these companies more or less remains in tact and like you, much of the value (90%+) is in gains so selling makes little sense since the $ is not needed anyway. I don't post yearly performance and frankly don't know or care b/c value-wise more than half of investments (and growing) are not publicly traded and the price is far less relevant than performance.

The only thing better than a boring portfolio is a boring tax return schedule D.

Theme for me is always tail winds. 2025 adds to JOE, Fairfax Financial, new position in TGT (new CEO - finally!) and FL real estate. Also bought a few dividend payers (SWBI, KW, WU, COP) in only retirement account to have some additional tax-deferred money to play with via ideas from this board. No sales except retirement account and none expected.
-
Kind of the same way a lot of people felt during the prior administration. Its uncanny that every complaint can be turned around but the complainant is blind to it.
-
Not directed specifically at you or anyone in particular, but on a forum like this how can Fairfax Financial not be included in one's portfolio?
-
As always income-generating, strategically located property in proximity to development. Don't have to look far these days.
-
Florida real estate.

The disadvantage of size can be turned into a huge advantage by expanding the circle of competence. We'll see if that happens under Greg's watch.
-
What makes you think this is material enough even to comment on? The name will eventually be changed back. Who cares?

Of course we need enforceable immigration laws. But anyone who comes here illegally is breaking the law. They know it and do it anyway. I don't want intentional lawbreakers in my Country and doubt that most rational people do either. They come at the expense of our citizens and despite there being a lawful process for entry into this Country, they choose an unlawful alternative. Doesn't mean they are all "bad" people but we have to maintain standards or otherwise the result is the pure havoc we see in some sanctuary cities. Is there any legitimate reason not to enforce the law? The left seems to think so which is one reason why they lost.
-
Not so much illegal voting but downright gerrymandering. The left complains about how some states attempt redistricting in order to favor republican voting districts but are fine with allowing anyone into the Country who will support their policies of giveaways and lawlessness. Its just farcical.

But that's why we have elections every 2 years. IMO the arena was being threatened most by open borders.
