  1. Nah, if that were indeed true, we'd have no interest.
  2. John, a lot of young people get their foot in the door with unpaid internships. I just don't get all the hoopla surrounding Greenland. Don't the people there get a say? My understanding is they were working toward complete independence; am I wrong? In any event, the new narrative is that under Trump the US is imperialist. That's kind of amusing to folks here who understand that we have a tough enough time taking care of our own domestically. Just like there is a difference between starting wars and protecting/preventing wars, it is abundantly clear (to me anyway) that the US only views Greenland as a strategic outpost in pursuit of stopping foreign aggression. Not sure why this so confusing to some. My guess is (and it is only a guess) that if the population of Greenland (which is equivalent to the residents of a few square blocks in some our larger cities) were given an opportunity to have pretty much anything reasonable that they could think of in exchange for a US presence on Greenland, they would at least consider the option. It is not as if the President plans to build a Trump Tower and Casino on the coast or destroy the native habitat. Context and perspective just seems to get lost in these discussions.
  3. Agreed but only if each of your investments started out as equal weight. Otherwise you may be over-thinking this b/c your best performers are responsible for most of your investment success, which is Viking's primary point.
  4. Putin is worth more than a lot of countries. He's got his own little corner of the World ready to go if all else fails. Straight out of a James Bond movie.
  5. I would expect the clunkers to be few and far between from here on out. The reason is simple; Fairfax is small enough and has no constraints so as to be able to pick out the best of the best. That said UA gives me pause. When the World is literally your oyster, is that the best they could find? But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt; there must be a lot there we just don't know.
  6. It is those lawmakers in districts that vote them in again and again that are the most worrisome. They're not going anywhere unless or until the people voting them into office become more self-aware. The real cult was created by the main stream media decades ago after true newsmen like Cronkite, Huntley and Brinkley all went away. You remember when the "news" was factually reported on TV? Then came the CNNs of the World, where they'd broadcast the same burning tire in East Jerusalem for years in order to persuade the World that Israel was torturing Palestinians. Yet many of us were capable of thinking for ourselves. We were able to distinguish real factual events from some leftist politically-motivated network ideology disguised as "news" and narrated to us by yes-men and women. It just took far too long for the main stream media cult to finally get called out and dismantled. And it took someone like Trump to put the final nail in the coffin.
  7. @villainx you're right, but oil stocks (not OXY), IBM and others were sold relatively quickly and even some of Buffett's "mistakes" were actually profitable for Berkshire.
  8. Was referring more to some of the sad excuses we now have for congressional lawmakers. But read into it what you wish. The "cult" narrative is getting quite tired. Projecting your descriptive on a largely silent supportive majority doesn't make it any more real.
  9. @Milu don't try to be logical with people void of logical thought.
  10. @Viking, why do you think Fairfax has been so slow to recognize failed investments? If there is one stark difference between Prem and Buffett it is that Buffett is quick to cut bait with stocks he believes were mistakes or not living up to expectations.
  11. LOL. Feigned outrage as sincere as a $3 bill. It is kind of sad watching the Left literally dismantle itself. We still need two Parties to function properly as a Country but each Party requires some degree of moral clarity. Maybe a guy like Fetterman can gain traction but not holding my breath.
  12. Probably a forever holding.
  13. So it was perfectly fine to put a bounty on his head but not to arrest him and try him for his crimes? Some people are so deluded by political ideology they completely lose all perspective of right vs. wrong.
  14. New math?
  15. Re. Iran an emphatic Nope. Imminent threats must be removed. Over and over again as long as necessary. There is, and never was an alternative.
  16. Caring about what? The bully pulpit is alive and well this weekend. Stale whining uttered every time something happens that in any way may be attributable to Trump. Yet how quickly each and every event seems to get lost or forgotten when the next such event surfaces. Epstein who? Then there are those who pretend to play judge and jury without the legal training a TV Matlock. Good thing we have a justice system in place that despite its deficiencies is still better than any other place in the World. All the while, the vast silent majority who voted for Trump and his policies sits back largely content that what they voted for is actually being put in place. When did those on the other side parse every action by the prior Administration as if the world were ending every day? Oh wait, there was no action from four years of Weekend at Bernies other than allowing the Country to slowly degrade into a form of socialistic chaos. Trump had and has a lot of cleaning up to do. Janitor in chief who can still run circles around those of you who claim he is too old. Don't like his polices? There is another election coming up in a few years. Until then the words "elections have consequences" should remain etched in all our brains, particularly those who decided that voting in the last election was not a worthwhile endeavor. One can only wonder how many of Trump's most harshest critics decided to sit out the last election. The hypocrisy of inaction.
  17. Sorry, John. Meant to say large hunk of ice. Good for making drinks and as a talking point.
  18. @dealraker I think the mistake you're making is lumping all Trump supporters into what you call a cult. As I have said repeatedly, you can support the majority of his polices and be far from cult-like. IMO, there are far more crazies on the opposing side.
  19. Nah, a lot of assumptions there in "going into Venezuela". No worries, us so-called cultists get it and fully grasp how desperate is the "cult" stereotype. But as another poster alluded to earlier with regard to Europe, wishing and hoping and praying for better outcomes is not an option. Neither is complaining.
  20. Well, his supporters believe there is a common theme to all his actions. His detractors clearly don't (or don't like the theme). Its not my job to lay it out for anyone and we will see whether, and/or to what extent this 4-year term is a success. That said, reducing dangerous Venezuelan "areapas" that are bad for the waistline from our soil is a worthwhile goal. One can argue about the means from now to whenever but it seems to me there is ample Panamanian precedent for this operation.
  21. LOL, have we used Canadian vessels as target practice or taken over your Country? Show of hands if you really feel Canada is in jeopardy of being annexed and how exactly you think that might happen. I'm intrigued. Or is it just another convenient (tired) way to bash the President?
  22. Again, you're creating fiction. We get it - you don't like Trump.
  23. The UN? What a feckless organization. Not surprised that is the basis of your argument. The US Senate will support the operation. But why argue the facts?
  24. Back to that, are we? C'mon I know you can do better than that!
  25. So I'll take that as a "No". Pesky details; they tend to get in the way of a narrative. At last check countries like Greenland weren't conducting narco-terrorism operations against the US.
