So far, I have taught the kids Ruy Lopez, the English system and, in honor of COBF, the Ponziani. You really see kids’ characters when they play chess!!!! In all honesty Cod Liver Oil, the only book I've ever read on chess was a very rudimentary book on how the game works when I was 11 years old. I've never read any books on classic openings or anything, but I've played for almost 45 years now. I'm pretty good...based on how I play and players I've beaten online, I guess I would rank somewhere between a Class A and Class B player. Maybe I should read some books! Cheers!
Cod Liver Oil Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 Sanjeev, I'm not sure all the theory makes the game more enjoyable. Even though theory is intellectually stimulating, it narrows the possibilities for fun and surprise. This game that @Blugolds calls out is hilarious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObmFR5Dz7Ac But if it is all about "winning" then you need to surrender to Stockfish or Jim Simons' home-made algos at Millennium. It makes all of our arguments here at COBF seem quaint.
