Parsad Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Now they are fighting for their survival...energy and input costs are killing French bakeries. Cheers! https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2023/03/business/french-bakeries-cnnphotos/
Spekulatius Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Thee baguettes are so cheap - 1.3€ for a baguette. It would be 3x as much in the US. I guess they just have to raise prices.
InsecurityAnalysis Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Just an anecdotal example. When we visit my wife's family in western France, we would always pick up baguettes on Wednesday for the daily special. Used to be 4 baguettes for the price of 3, but that's gone now. Family was pretty bitter about it, and they bring it up at any chance they get. From what I saw at the bakeries, baguettes were the traffic drivers and then folks would also pick up dessert or maybe breakfast for the morning. Now the bakery section at the groceries seemed to have taken more share, even with inferior products. Guess even the French have a breaking point when it comes to food.
jks327 Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 Only place I've ever been where bread was coming out of the oven in the afternoon!
