PatientCheetah Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 great interview, he focuses the core economics and the sustainability of reinvestment opportunities. he is willing to pay up for it if ROIC is compelling and can be replicated year and year.
Liberty Posted May 17, 2014 Author Posted May 17, 2014 Side question: Does anyone have Akre track record, going as far back as possible? Thanks.
EliG Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Great interview. Thanks for posting. Side question: Does anyone have Akre track record, going as far back as possible? Thanks. http://www.marketwatch.com/story/top-manager-quits-mutual-fund-2009-08-05 13% annualized from Dec 1996 to Aug 2009 as a manager of FBR Focus Fund. The end date is not far from the bottom of the crisis. I would venture a guess that he was averaging better than 15% before the crisis.
Guest Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I did a quick calculation on his old fund. The symbol now is HFCSX. Hennessy took over the FBR fund family. From 12/31/2006 - 12/31/2007 a $10,000 investment would have turned into $52,962.40 - 16.39% after fees.
dpetrescu Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Interesting that American Towers is one of his largest holdings. He had a very good narrative about it in the interview: future increase in demand for cell towers with increase in speed over time (3G to 4G to....etc). Last year (and 50% ago) there was a short counter argument claiming their overseas investments are destroying value and that data usage growth will circumvent cell towers. I don't have a strong opinion personally but interesting to hear two opposing intelligent points of view. http://www.muddywatersresearch.com/research/amt/initiating-coverage-amt-full-report/
spartansaver Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Anyone know where to find Akre's old letters to shareholders?
educatedidiot Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Chuck Akre's Q1 13-F is out. He bought KKR & Co, added to American Tower, Alarm.com, and a few others. American Tower was already his largest position, and is now up to a 13% weight. http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=373&fC=1
dcollon Posted November 11, 2019 Posted November 11, 2019 Thanks for sharing Liberty. I always enjoy listening to Chuck.
