marlinls Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 As you may know Andy has written many books about Warren Buffett. he has it advertised on amzn.com. i don't have a web site anymore so this is the only site that it is noted. Marlin Stockwell
marlinls Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 i never heard of Warren Buffett till 1995 when i borrowed a book - The Warren Buffett way-. i bought Berkshire stock in 1996. it has gone up 6 times what i paid for it. so don't pay any attention to negative articles about berkshire. if these reporters make 50 billion dollars maybe i will pay attention otherwise tell them to shutup. if anyone wants to look at my facebook photos search for marlin stockwell. there are berkshire photos on there. Marlin
Buffett_Groupie Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I also bought my first share of BRK in 1996 at $30,060, but on margin as there was no class B shares and it's quite a large amount for a 32-year old. Back then, everyone I talked to thought I was insane or outright stupid. We should meet up in Omaha in May and celebrate our early "stupid insanity"!
DCG Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I've got to admit I've always been unclear why Marlin's only contributions to this board over the years is promoting Andy Kilpatrick's books.
marlinls Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 i am 81 just 2 years back of Warren, i have nothing much to say. i do this for Andy out of friendship i don't get anything for doing it. Marlin
marlinls Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 i know Warren, Suzie and Peter. i have been in 10 editions of Andys books for thing things i did over the years. Marlin
Buffett_Groupie Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 All of us know all of them, but they don't know me! Hence, the key in life for me is "it doesn't matter who I know, it only matters who knows me and only those who know me will do business or decline to do business with me." LOL :-)
marlinls Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 i met Warren Buffett in 1998 when i had a surprise party for Suzie Buffett. i didn't expect Warren to come. him and his 5 body guards. someone told the press of the party, every tv station was there and reporters from around the world. the place was packed. i arranged parties in 1999 and 2000 also. Warren used to come to all our parties and Andy has parties on saturday before the meeting and Warren used to come to them. they were the good old days. Marlin
Parsad Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I've got to admit I've always been unclear why Marlin's only contributions to this board over the years is promoting Andy Kilpatrick's books. Marlin is an old-timer Yellow BRK'er...back when Warren used to come to the party and speak for 45 minutes to an hour! It's where I first met Buffett, Mohnish, Marlin, Sherrie Gregory, et al. My friend John Zemanovich, Lotsofcoke, told me to come there on my first visit to Omaha at the Omaha Golf & Country Club. It changed my life. Marlin can post about Andy or whatever the hell he wants to! I'm a big fan of Andy's, as "Of Permanent Value" was part of the effect on my life in terms of Buffett and value investing. Buy "Of Permanent Value"...it's independently published, by a honest guy who isn't just shilling Buffett's name, but was there when no one wanted to write about Buffett. Now you have a deluge of books on Buffett, written by ten year olds or recent graduates of high school! Buy "Of Permanent Value"...a recommended choice by "Corner of Berkshire & Fairfax" and Sanjeev Parsad! ;D Cheers! http://www.andykilpatrick.net/
DCG Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Right on. Reding my post back, it was unnecessarily negative. I apologize Marlin. I didn't know the history.
shalab Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 This is a great book on Berkshire and I second this book. This is by far the "best" book on Buffett and Berkshire in my opinion. Thank you Marlin for your post.
berkshiremystery Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Right on. Reding my post back, it was unnecessarily negative. I apologize Marlin. I didn't know the history. DCG,... to put it politely,... Marlin is one of the leading secret gang members of the original BRK'ers. Buffett knows him. http://futile.free.fr/Yellow/ http://vimeo.com/18251136 http://s11.postimg.org/cl2id3xsz/image.jpg http://s27.postimg.org/4f2pjn377/image.jpg http://s9.postimg.org/lvc1unnqn/image.jpg
marlinls Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 as i said the parties began in 1998 when i had the party for Susie Buffett. i emailed people all over the world to set up the party. i still have all the emails. i did them in 1999 and 2000 also. i have not been back since. i was in 2 movies about Buffetts life. one in 1999 by an American company. the second was in 2000 by an Austrailian company. it was the best one. i have many emails for Susie none from Warren. they were interesting times. Marlin

Marlin +1 Well said Marlin. Thanks for posting. Old time BRK'ers are a great refresher for me. Haven't quite made 6x on BRK but happy with ~ 2x and I only started in 2006 and ramped to 80% now. Hope to make it to the yellow BRK'ers this year.
