  1. Berkshire's Q3 13-F is out: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=1058&fC=1 We already knew they exercised those BAC warrants. I thought it was interesting that it was the 3rd consecutive quarter with over 10 million shares of IBM sold. Looks like they're completely liquidating the position -- it just takes time, even for a stock as liquid as IBM!
  2. Not sure if anyone else follows Cannell Capital, but the manager is quite sharp IMO and their Q3 13-F is out: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=384&fC=1 They bought MagicJack, Destination XL, TripAdvisor, Manitex, and Virtus preferreds.
  3. Longleaf (Southeastern) filed their Q3 13-F: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=277&fC=1 They bought Mattel and Solaris Oilfield Infrastructure and sold out of Scripps and Everest Re.
  4. Glenn's (Brave Warrior) Q3 13-F just came out. It seems like he might've been raising cash as there was a lot more selling than buying. Sold out of ServiceMaster and sold decent chunks of Sensata, Brookfield, and Quintiles IMS. He added a fair number of shares of Alliance Data, which was already one of his largest positions: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=232548&fC=1
  5. Sequoia's Q3 13-F is out. They bought BMC Stock Holdings, Cars.com, Cable One, and Graham Holdings: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=370&fC=1 Anyone here take a closer look at Cars.com? With Cars.com and CarGurus coming public, and TrueCar already being listed, this industry has seemingly very suddenly come under the spotlight of the public markets.
  6. Seth Klarman (Baupost)'s Q3 13-F just came out. He bought McKesson, AMC Entertainment, Amerisourcebergen, Pioneer Natural, and Simply Good Foods warrants: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=376&fC=1
  7. Amazon is one of the more fascinating case-studies on this point. Not only because they ran-up a staggering $3+ billion in retained losses by 2002, just before they finally turned profitable: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Financials.aspx?fID=6337&p=2&i=8&pw=209079&rID=2&tID=1&stID=1&segID=-1 But even more fascinating to me is that Bezos still managed to hold on to ownership of 28% of AMZN at this point -- despite having to fund $3 billion in losses to get there!
  8. persistentone, You can get 10 year charts of price-earnings, price-to-book, price-to-tangible-book, and enterprise value ratios on Rocket. Here's Wal-Mart's 10-year EV/EBITDA chart for example: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Charts.aspx?fID=4876&r=3650&t=4 Given all the pessimism in the market over brick-and-mortar retail, surprised to see the valuation multiple on this one near 10-year highs! If you click on the dropdown box you can access those other valuation charts that you were looking for as well.
  9. I noticed a small cap company on this list that reduced their share count by an incredible 6%+ in each of the last 4 years, while growing the business by around 30% over the same period. It's a staffing company called Kforce: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Overview.aspx?fID=2487&pw=82029 Is anyone familiar with this company? Last year was a down year, but it looks like the business has started to rebound again this year.
  10. There is a "Cannibals" screen here: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/ScreenResults.aspx?id=26 It looks for companies that reduced their share count by at least 3% in each of the last 4 years. I was surprised to see that only 75 companies made the cut right now. There are some obvious names like AZO and ITW, and others that I wouldn't have suspected. You can also use the screener there to generate a list using slightly different criteria, although the 3% threshold for 4 years seems to strike a good balance between consistency and appetite if you're looking for "cannibals."
  11. Sequoia bought SPS Commerce and Appfolio in Q2. Added to Fiat Chrysler, Omnicom, Visa, Interactive Brokers. Sold their Perrigo stake. http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=370&fC=1
  12. You can see Baupost's full ownership history of Paratek Pharmaceuticals here: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/OwnHist.aspx?sID=45183&fID=376 They added 350,000 shares in the quarter and now own just under 2.4 million shares -- 8.7% of the company.
  13. Klarman's latest 13-F is out: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=376&fC=1 He bought Avis Budget, Silver Run, and Spirit Realty Capital. It looks like one of his largest purchases in the quarter was a substantial increase in the Synchrony Financial position.
  14. RL's Licensing segment: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Financials.aspx?fID=6024&pw=198750&rID=8&p=2&segID=9520&stID=1 90% EBITDA margins, 2% of revenues on capex. Nothing quite like a brand licensing business!
  15. Wasn't familiar with Nine Ten, thanks for mentioning!
  16. Bares Capital Q1 13-F: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=20&fC=1 They bought a lot more UA, ALRM, IBKR, NATI, and FAST in the quarter. Not much in the way of sales so they either were deploying a good-sized cash position or had some strong inflows.
  17. Michael Price's Q1 13-F: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=3860&fC=1 He bought BANC and FTI and sold out of ARIA and ALSN among other transactions
  18. The fact that Klarman's investments are often quite obscure is a huge positive IMO. Obscurity can be a source of significant value. In his own words: "If value is not likely to exist in what the herd is buying, where may it exist? In what they are selling, unaware of, or ignoring. When the herd is selling a security, the market price may fall well beyond reason. Ignored, obscure, or newly created securities may similarly be or become undervalued." – Seth Klarman
  19. He's continued to add to Sears all the way down: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/OwnHist.aspx?sID=484&fID=375 Incredible that he's owned it for 12 years now!
  20. Berkshire's Q1 13-F is out: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=1058&fC=1 Bought LSXMA and more than doubled the AAPL stake.
  21. Greenlight's Q1 13-F is out: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=374&fC=1 They bought GDX, PRGO, CNDT, MU, ALR, and a couple others. And they sold out of their AGR and YELP. Good timing on the YELP considering the sharp move down in May!
  22. rogermunibond, If you click on the "Hist" link on the Ralph Lauren row you can see the full history of when Southeastern initially bought those RL shares, added more, sold, etc and what the share price was during those quarters. You can of course see the ownership history for any of their positions this way, but here's the RL one: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/OwnHist.aspx?sID=41028&fID=277 It looks like they bought most of the position during Q2 of last year, added a bit more in succeeding quarters, and just dumped most of it now in Q1 likely at a loss.
  23. Longleaf (Southeastern) filed their Q1 13-F: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?id=277&fC=1 Not too many major changes but they bought Belmond, sold out of RYN and TRCO and sold almost all of their RL and DD.
  24. Klarman's latest 13-F is out: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?fID=376 He bought Qorvo, Qualcomm, and Express Scripts
  25. Ruane, Cunniff, Goldfarb filed their 13-F. Looks like they bought Priceline and Credit Acceptance: http://www.rocketfinancial.com/Holdings.aspx?fID=370
