  1. Your answer is "the rest of the world is gonna do what they're gonna do". Enough said. And read my prior post for your answer. You may not like it but who cares? And yet again try framing a proper question (don't know what a trade debacle is but certainly can recognize when change was needed).
  2. Please share with us how you would have addressed the issue of the rest of the World imposing tariffs on our products thereby rendering them non price-competitive or completely shut out of foreign markets? You have no answer because it simply wasn't happening. If the end result is access to more markets at more competitive prices, we win. If we start making more profitable stuff in the US, we win. But the usual commentators jump to (largely wrong) conclusions before the results are permitted to play out, which will take a lot more time than what has passed since election day. But keep on complaining - its all music to the people that support an effort being made.
  3. By George I think he's got it! And that is precisely the reason Trump was elected President - to put America first.
  4. Why would they care at all if we are only "taxing ourselves"? If we accept your position, our tariffs are meaningless to them.
  5. So every country that complains about our tariffs has no reason to complain because we are just taxing ourselves? And every country that imposes tariffs is only hurting themselves with extra taxes?
  6. LOL, so how do foreign tariffs help our economy?
  7. Yeah, the same people who complain about the price of eggs routinely spend $7+ on a Starbucks Latte. When their complaints are entirely contrary to their own behavior, they look and sound like the fools they are.
  8. Agreed. So why is it OK for them to tax us (the US) but not OK for us to tax them?
  9. I mean seriously, if you have any ambition beyond simply earning a paycheck (nothing wrong with that), is government your first choice?
  10. Isn't the lesson there that government is not a meritocracy?
  11. Nah. Looking at Novartis's recent ails, maybe it could come up with a cure for TDS to help its bottom line.
  12. @dwy000 please learn to ask non-confrontational questions if you would like to have a discussion.
  13. He created a movement from scratch; don't pretend you don't remember. And don't confuse dialogue with a fan club. When it comes to politicians, most of us are fans of policy, not people. People are simply tools to effectuate desirable policies.
  14. For that reason alone I hope he does succeed in challenging Methuselah.
  15. Yeah. It would be disappointing if a company that can literally invest in anything feels a need to pay a dividend.
  16. Really? Daddy paid for his diploma? Can't wait to see how you prove that. C'mon Sanjeev, don't let your ideology and personal feelings alter an otherwise intelligent and productive mindset. One can hate him or disagree with him but give credit where credit is due. He was elected twice to the most powerful position in the World and had almost -0- support from the get go. Call it anything you want but don't call it stupid.
  17. My guess is (1) and/or (2) but only as opportunities arise for each. I assume acquisitions also include equity investments. Greg will have a Honeymoon period when he'll be free to keep accumulating cash if everything remains expensive but over time I believe BRK's investment universe will broaden well beyond that of Buffett. As a long time shareholder I'm not concerned with the next couple of years.
  18. Did "The Guardian" share similar concerns for Biden? Back in the day you could always count on Johnny Carson for pure entertainment, no matter what else happened to be going on in your life or in the World. He made you want to tune in every night just for laughs. The "politics" thread of COBF is the closest thing I have found to "Carson" and it just keeps getting better and better.
  19. You own JOE, right?
  20. Really surprised at you, Sanjeev (not so much others here). Parsing "book" smarts and "street" smarts to try and demonstrate "stupidity" reflects your own emotion and misses the mark entirely. I suppose you're right about one thing - you will never know how he graduated from Wharton with that type of thinking.
  21. Thanks for the great summary.
  22. Why do you always talk out of both sides of your mouth? No one here is judging Trump's presidency before it is over. Good luck with your predictions - that's all they are. Yet it is beyond dispute that he single handedly dismantled the Democratic Party, he succeeded in finally discrediting a corrupt main stream media, he has destroyed woke culture in the US, he totally dominates the World narrative (no, every US President didn't have this ability), he nearly always gets what he wants when it comes to policy regardless of what you or anyone else may think and with only a marginal majority in congress, and the best part - he drives people like you batshit crazy. There are folks on this board who believe Trump is stupid. Stupid people don't have these abilities. But people lacking common sense let their ideologies and personal hatred control their lives.
  23. Actually, I think he's playing you and everyone else with tariffs. And like it or not, he's getting the last laugh - no matter what happens from here on out.
  24. The Democrats did everything they could to bury Trump - personally, politically and legally. They failed miserably. When they look in the mirror they can thank themselves for electing the man to a second term and wonder why everyone around them is entertained by their obsessions.
  25. Well, to your credit, your investments are much more logical than your political commentary. Stick to your strengths.
