IMO, what he said about Microsoft and Ballmer is spot on. It is not because someone has helped establish the company that he should have a permanent seat at the top. The "original" idea that started it all after a few decades gets really old and one needs to adapt, not entrench and cultivate an environment where new great leaders and ideas are born. He has not demonstrated any of that.

You are totally right about that.

However as a general comment, thinking that Microsoft is where it is because of innovation is not accurate.

anyone know the idea he posted on the VIC board?

Possibly HCA. It is an Einhorn long and it was posted on 5/25. I can't read the writeup yet though. It's also the only post by that member.

I'll check it out. thanks!

Well, it looks like Einhorn's argument was much more than what the press initially detailed.

This paragraph was particularly interesting:

Well Ray Ozzie, Gary Flake and Li Gong have all left Microsoft, along with Robbie Bach, and J Allard, who were largely responsible for the success of X-Box. Four other division presidents have left Microsoft since 2008 as well as former CFO Chris Liddell. Good grief!

Interesting that Einhorn is the cousin of Sheryl Sandberg.
