vn35 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Hi, To buy and sell directly on Stockholm or other European exchanges, what are some brokerages that have good execution and commissions ? I know that Charles Schwab offers it, but the commission is not that low. Thanks. Jimmy
gfp Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I use interactive brokers. They are great, just be sure to do a currency transaction also or IB will charge you interest on a currency loan. With IB, you have to subscribe to the market data from the exchange you wish to trade on. It's a different price for each exchange.
vn35 Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 Thanks. Interactive brokers looks good with reasonable commissions. How much do they charge to do currency transaction for each trade. Jimmy
turar Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 They charged me $2.50. Did you also become interested in menlo's idea?
vn35 Posted November 10, 2010 Author Posted November 10, 2010 Up to now, my intl portion are mostly in ETFs. I am planning to move some of that into individual stocks if the value arises. And menlo idea is interesting.
watsa_is_a_randian_hero Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I use IB as well. They are the best option for a retail or semi-professional investor/trader. Best mix of service quality, product breadth, and price.
beerbaron Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 In Canada we have the equivalent of deposit insurance for brokers. IB is not part of this deposit insurance, doesn't that make some people cautious? BeerBaron

RichardGibbons Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 In Canada we have the equivalent of deposit insurance for brokers. IB is not part of this deposit insurance. According to this link, IB is covered: http://www.cipf.ca/Public/MemberDirectory/CurrentMembers.aspx Richard
