600 GM Dealership Franchises to be restored

General Motors Co. will reinstate about 600 dealerships that it had originally planned to drop from its network, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday in its online edition. GM had initially planned to eliminate 2,400 dealerships as part of its reorganization but about 1,160 of the dealers had appealed through an arbitration process, the Journal said. The automaker is expected to make an official announcement of which dealers will be retained later Friday, according to the newspaper.

Look's like a good way to side-step some lawsuits.  The re-instated dealers were probably marginal operators in the first place, which is why they were slated for closing.
