CR Recommends Tesla 3

On any other day, this would not be a noteworthy article...Consumer Reports recommends the Tesla 3.

A week ago, CR found that the brakes on the Tesla 3 were underperforming so badly, that they could not recommend the car.  Then Elon Musk had his Tesla team update the software remotely for the antilock braking system, and the brakes performed so much better that CR now recommends the Tesla 3.  They not only upgraded the brakes remotely, but a number of other things including touch controls, etc.

Nothing new for Tesla owners, but light years ahead of everyone else!  Cheers!

So we're lauding Tesla for being able to fix over-the-air a serious brake problem that any other car manufacturer would have caught in the testing Tesla skipped?

This feels weird.

Agree.  They should not have encountered this issue in the first place.  But the fact that they could make the repair over the air through a software upgrade...pretty amazing!  Cheers!

I agree it would look pretty amazing. But I know a lot about cars and it's not quite so. What they probably did through the software update is increase breaking pressure - pretty much the only thing they can do. Basically cause the breaks to grip harder than they were designed to do. Over time this leads to increased wear(maybe not so much of an issue on Tesla), cracked pads, and warped rotors. Not exactly what I'd call a fix.

You are correct. Once we start seeing this thing from Systems/Engineering standpoint, immediately start recognizing potential of things as everything in the car is data driven as in most of the successful IOT platforms. Amount of the data and number of fields captured for stats to mine it and provided back to servers, it's pretty amazing.

Posted below few weeks back on TSLA (Investment Ideas) some thoughts on using these cars (X and 3) for past year and comparing against what's available in market.

"If seeing Tesla from System standpoint below points can be cross compared with other EV solutions:

Superchargers solutions and network availability and fastest chargers on market

Complete IOT car platform with OTA

Full remote climate control

Car tracking solution with UBER level of accuracy

Most advanced and longest range battery solutions

Semi autonomous system with no-lag human/system control exchange

List can go on and on and there are OTAs which make things better on regular updates. not counting 0-60s other nuances."
