Hey guys,

Does anyone know which online broker will open an account for a U.S. citizen living outside the U.S.? It seems like some of them wont accept this (I tried E*trade and Schwab) maybe Interactive Brokers?

thanks a lot

I'm not sure citizenship matters, but residence. IB is organized with divisions usually by continent...so for example a resident in the Americas (north or south) would go with IB USA, one resident in Europe with IB UK and so forth...I see no reason why it can't be opened , just select your country of residence. Citizenship is just an identification formality usually.

Try Fidelity,  they are a little more agnostic

Vanguard and TIAA absolutely will not, it is why we pulled our IRAs from them to fidelity in case we ever have to unexpectedly leave the US

Not if you are an US citizen. Most foreign brokers don't accept US citizens as customers because they don't want to deal with overreaching US regulations... so your best bet is probably a broker that is also active in the US.
