  1. I remember reading some sketchy things about Orient Paper's management. IIRC, the CFO was 25 years old or something... I'll try to find the link
  2. I cant speak on behalf of mainland China, specifically because all the government data that comes out is whatever you want it to be. But, if you use Hong Kong as a proxy, the building of office buildings and luxury suites is out of control. Yields on these properties are only returning around 3.2% where historically they have been in the 4-5% range. The squared value figures for floorspace are up to pre-recession levels already.
  3. So I've been shopping around for some decent EBITDA positive oil and mining companies that aren't that well known, or at least not saturated with coverage and I'm having trouble finding any. It seems that every company has 10-12 analysts on it, particularly in Canada. I know Contango has been discussed here a couple of times and its definitely an interesting gas producer to follow. The CEO seems to know his business and management/shareholder interests are aligned. Does anyone else have names they want to throw into the hat?
  4. Speaking of international expansions - namely china - Walmart is actually somewhat of a premium store in china. It doesnt really cater to the lower rung, but more to the middle class. Most of the stuff that they can pass off cheap in NA comes from china. But they can't pass off cheap things from China to the chinese, it doesnt really work like that... Anyway, now that im here, most of my comments will be able china =p
  5. Could you expand on this a little? I realize valuations are rich, but is there any other reasons?
  6. http://english.sina.com/ I found this site... it's got a decent selection of economical and industrial news with a focus on China... if anyone cared
  7. This morning I woke up and found myself in China with a dumpling in my pocket. On a semi related note, I'm wondering if anyone on this board has any general overview of the markets in China. I'm actually looking for a website equivalent to finance.yahoo.com or globeinvestor.com but for chinese stocks. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  8. Id like to read up some of the thread from the old board. Is this possible?
  9. I know this topic has been done a few times (at least on the old board), but does anyone have any recommendations for equity analysis books? Specifically, I'm looking for books that point out those small (sometimes not so small) but crucial things to look for whether in the business of a company, or behind the accounting numbers. On a semi related note, I find Wabuffo's posts an interesting read cause he always seems to point out the minutiae that can make drastic differences in proposed numbers.
