  1. My portfolio is denominated in Australian dollars. I was up 33.22% in 2020, which is my best return to date. I had a lot of luck. My biggest winners were Naked Wines and Haier Smart Home D shares, which I bought in December. I wrote a more detailed review on my blog if that's the kind of thing that interests you: https://generalsandworkouts.blogspot.com/2021/01/december-portfolio-update-and-2020.html And sorry to hear about your brother, John. That really sucks. I hope everyone has a good 2021.
  2. Thanks for the recommendation. We watched it last night and loved it.
  3. I also bought some Taihei Machinery Works Ltd (6342). It trades at roughly NCAV, has a PE < 5 and pays a reasonable dividend.
  4. I've just bought some more KG Intelligence Co (2408). It has discounted NCAV of 529 yen per share (mostly cash) as well as some land. It's currently trading at 262 yen. Business is v. crappy and declining, but it's too cheap IMO. These things can stay cheap for a long time, so best to use a basket approach.
  5. Thanks for sharing those ideas, Janeo. I currently hold NKK Switches (TYO:6943), Sanko Sangyo (TYO:7922), Yotai Refractories (TYO:5357), Katsuragawa Electric (TYO:6416) and Fujix Ltd (TYO:3600). Some other names I've been looking at recently: Kaneso (Nagoya:5979), Geomatec (Sapporo:2137), Somar (TYO:8152) and Nankai Plywood (TYO:7887). Out of the three you mentioned, Kyowakogyosyo is most attractive to me at first glance.
  6. I was up 21.38% in 2019, including franking tax credits we get here in Australia. I started tracking my performance properly a couple of years ago. I was up 10.94% in 2018 and 5.97% for August-December 2017. Biggest winner for me in 2019 was a stock called Open Orphan (formerly Venn Life Sciences), which I bought as a net-net after a recommendation from a friend. It's now up >280%. (I run a pretty diversified portfolio so even after that gain it's a ~10% position.) I also made a lot of dumb mistakes. The good news is there's still plenty of room for improvement.
