Transatlantic Holdings, Inc. was a buyout target by BRK in 2012, but was trumped by Y after BRK refused to raise its offer( does it ever). Buffett is trying to get the whole enchilada 10 years later (unless someone offers more, in which case doubt he would raise his bid).
-
remember Y had huge position relative to their portfolio at one time in BNSF.

could he be beefing up on people to help run insurance at BRK along with the company itself?

Yes, I bought this low. The runup has been crazy, must be due to factors driving it. I don't think the terminal value concerns will ever go away with this one. That said, I funneled at bit more into SWMAY yesterday, which hasn't really run up at all.
what is your criteria/preference for buying foreign shares thru ADR or on a US traded market versus the home market. Curious since you trade foreign shares rather routinely. Thanks

I know it’s late, but I highly recommend this show on HBO.

if my memory serves me correct, this company also included world book encyclopedia as a division. not sure of the margin on kirby, but I remember World Book's margin as being very high and lucrative-- that is until the cdrom came along.

Bought more CASH @ $18.78. At some point, I may do a write-up on it. It's a very interesting and unusual small bank.

Seems like lot of insider selling although it appears to be mainly ex Crestmark officers, possibly diversifying?

Sold more of my $47.50 Berry Puts for $9.30 (vs $1.90 cost)
I own shares as well. So I basically went long the stock.
excuse my ignorance, but does that affect the holding period of the stock for tax purposes?
