  1. Here is the appeal filed by Fairfax on Friday afternoon. Cheers! Fairfax_Lawsuit_Filing_-_Appeal_-_May_31_2013.pdf
  2. Shawn, I was moving your "Investment Ideas" post to the "General Discussion" area on my iPhone, and because the type was so small, I think I clicked "Remove Topic", rather than "Move Topic". I'm sorry I accidentally deleted the post. Cheers!
  3. S&P500 dividends are now below 2% again. Not overly expensive relative to the 10-year risk free rate which is at 2%, but not cheap by any means either. Any movement upwards, and you are getting into the territory where the risk premium is not even worth consideration relative to the risk...and that's excluding any macroeconomic factors. Just common sense. When you consider the potential outliers from Europe, Japan and China, you have to be a masochist to consider risking your capital at current premiums. The cash in the MPIC Funds continues to increase...we can't wait to put it to work at the right time...and if you've got more...send it our way! Cheers!
  4. I always thought Fisher was riding on Daddy's coat-tails. Not sure why people pay attention to him. No different than any other large fund company. Cheers!
  5. Charlie has donated $32M to the Huntington Library's new $60M project. Cheers! http://finance.yahoo.com/news/huntington-library-receives-32m-munger-214145517.html
  6. Really Packer! Geez, you look a lot younger than me...I thought you were in your mid-30's! Cheers!
  7. With that said, you mentioned if you saw something cheap, you would still buy it, right? Always! But it's just harder and harder to find stuff. Cheers!
  8. Article on the Dow's EPS dipping, while the Dow rises. Cheers! http://www.cnbc.com/id/100776807
  9. Tim turns 50 tomorrow...so wish him a happy 50th birthday...he's on the other side of the clock now! All downhill from here. ;D He stayed answering your questions till 12:20 am at this year's Fairfax Financial Shareholder's Dinner. He won't be able to handle that anymore. Cheers!
  10. These are signs for sure. We've seen them before. Common Man Investor's performance record only shows for this year...he's up 76%! Look at some of the blog posts on the side...the participants are watching stock performance on a short term basis, watching and buying futures...we'll see if this guy is around in five years! Cheers!
  11. About the other famous Buffett's empire. Cheers! http://finance.yahoo.com/news/welcome-margaritaville-most-lucrative-song-140701644.html
  12. I love the name of the guy's blog..."The Economic Collapse Blog"...he's not biased! ;D I think Japan is a problem...we'll see what happens. Cheers!
  13. Hi Triple, You should thank your father for doing what he did. Too many kids grow up with the wrong perspective. Yesterday, I was driving with my brother, and this young kid was driving a Lamborghini Gallardo convertible. Nothing unusual in Vancouver, as too many spoilt children can be found driving around in the expensive cars their parents bought them, because it's much easier to do that than to be a responsible parent actually active in their children's lives. Many of these children are satellite children...parents live back in another country, while their children grow up here alone in a big house, lots of money and no parents around. You need transportation, let me buy you a Ferrari! You hungry, don't worry I left a ton of money in your checking account, just go buy something to eat. You need clothes, go to Robson Street and buy luxury. Anything about responsibility to community...no. Anything about giving back to society...no. Anything about being self-sustaining and standing on your own two legs...no. Kid's car gets confiscated for reckless driving...no worries, buy them another Ferrari. For every one of those parents, I hope there is another one like yours to counter balance! "No" is a very tough word for parents to say, but the alternative could create a very undesirable population. Cheers!
  14. Better place...gone to a better place I suppose! Unfortunately, it took along hundreds of millions in investor capital. Cheers!
  15. Hi Norm, Yes, the Ben Graham Dinner would be Monday night. If you guys felt that the Railcar Bar was too tight or inadequate, we can change that. It's a good idea to keep it in the hotel, because it makes it easier for Francis to bring you guys good guests. The further they have to walk, the less likely you'll get as good guests, and most definitely the less time they'll be able to spend with you guys. Let me know what you want to do, and I can arrange a separate small room to hold the pre-dinner drinks meeting in with a cash bar and maybe theatre/classroom seating. Although, when I went into the Railcar Bar...while full and tight...it had a very intimate feeling and was very easy to hear the Q&A. Whatever you guys decide...let me know. Cheers!
  16. Modest changes on the actual message board...more to do with functionality...as well as with the ads. You won't ever see those textual moving ads on here again. But the ad positions will be more clear, and I will be able to sell ads to things/events that are related to value investing. The big changes will be to the homepage, which is barely a functioning entity right now. It will be mobile/tablet ready with a live feed of the newest posts from the message board. There will be a section where I can post stories, and a section where I will have specific event information, combined with a blog of sorts where I can put the occasional article, story or interview. Really, just trying to get a more coherent strategy on how the board is set up and works. After that, we will continue to improve the message board with new features, etc, that you guys may like or desire. They will always be little changes over time, because alot of what the message board's main purpose is, already exists for users. It's getting things fine-tuned to make your time spent here easier. Feel free to start showering me with ideas and improvements you guys want, and what I can incorporate now I will, and the more complicated stuff I will add over time. Cheers!
  17. The Fairfax Financial 2014 AGM will be on April 9th, 2014 at Roy Thomson Hall...back to Wednesday! ;D http://www.fairfax.ca/Investors/shareholder-information/default.aspx Our Fairfax Financial Shareholder's Dinner will be on Tuesday, April 8th, 2014 at the Fairmont Royal York. The MPIC Fund's AGM will be on Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 starting around 1pm or so, in the Pickering/Green rooms once at Roy Thomson Hall. Cheers!
  18. Hi Folks, You may notice the occasional disruption in the board, as I am upgrading a number of things with Paul Clerc at Watermelon Webworks. Please excuse any downtime, as there will be improvements made in the ensuing weeks that will make it worth it. If the site does go down though, please email me and that way I can get Watermelon Webworks to reboot it right away. I was at lunch for Alnesh's birthday right now, so I didn't know anything was wrong until I got Buffett Groupie's email. Thanks very much! Sanjeev
  19. Check out the young analyst/manager at the 20 minute mark who explains why Buffett doesn't quite get technology..."He's an older guy..." This guy needs to attend a few more BRK AGM's! ;D Cheers!
  20. Here is the link to the China Television interview with Buffett around the time of the AGM this year. Much of it is in Chinese, but there are some English portions. Our boardmember, Buffett Groupie, had a CCTV press pass for this year's AGM too! Cheers! http://tv.cntv.cn/video/C10329/2925896759784c51a861319c2244925f
  21. Begins Sunday. Cheers! http://finance.yahoo.com/news/auction-lunch-warren-buffett-starts-101147838.html
  22. Yup! So do quite a few other people in the office. Be careful what you guys say! ;D Cheers!
  23. Incidentally, welcome back Lotsofcoke! For those of you who don't know, it was Lotsofcoke who took me to my first Yellow BRK'ers party back in 2001, where I ended up meeting Buffett. The rest is history and this board pretty much exists because of that. Cheers!
  24. Incidentally, since Prem reads this board, he will be very upset at anyone who buys any other phone instead of a Z10 or Q10. He will not pay your annual dividend if he finds out you bought a non-Blackberry phone. He will also get Thorsten to break your little, girly phones with his big brawny hands. ;D He's a big guy...looks slight on television, but he's big! Cheers!
  25. Anyone familiar with auditors in the Cayman Islands. We will be setting up our offshore fund there, and outside of the big boys, is anyone familiar with the small or mid-size firms? Any recommendations or referrals? I will be contacting a number of them for quotes (including the big boys), shortlisting them, and then getting comfortable with them on a conference call. Thanks very much for any help you guys can provide! Also, any third party fund administrators you guys are very happy with and would recommend...in the Cayman Islands or onshore? I'm checking UBS' fund administration services and I know a lot of people use Michael J. Liccar...any other recommendations? Cheers!
