  1. Respect. Just saying everyone expecting economic slowdown and lo and behold decent growth. The whole point of the current economic strategy is to address the long term pain that middle and lower income people have been experiencing as a result of globalization.
  2. You put up a graph of GDP. Today’s news was GDP. Now you’re switching to debt/deficit. Global layoffs? From AI, automation, corporate restructuring, etc. Or are you saying that is due to tariffs?
  3. More like we are going to implement tariffs in an attempt to address an unsustainable global model and there will be consequent short term pain. Oh, ok no short term pain so far….cool!
  4. I don’t disagree with the principle that financial disclosures must be truthful to preserve the integrity of the credit system. A lie that helps one borrower get financing over another is a distortion, even if the lender isn’t directly harmed. That said, the remedy here was ridiculously disproportionate—especially in light of the absence of actual financial harm, no victim complaints, and the fact that these were sophisticated institutions with their own underwriting processes. Penalizing inflated estimates is legitimate, but $450 million and executive bans is the kind of punishment typically reserved for cases where harm was not only possible but actually occurred. You’re right, ultimately it helped him politically.
  5. How about the civil fraud case brought by Letitia James. $364M in penalties approved by the lovely judge Engoran, which ballooned to $450M between ruling and enforcement. No bank or lender reported financial loss from doing business with Trump, and none sued him or claimed they were defrauded. if it hips like a kangaroo and it hops like a kangaroo, well you’re intelligent you draw the conclusion.
  6. You are experiencing post traumatic embitterment disorder. No really it’s a thing. But remember politics is cyclical. If the Dems can develop a platform that appeals to the electorate, they will have success. Sweet wasn’t blaming you personally for Britain’s problems. I think you knew that he meant people like you, ie. those supportive of illegal immigration or supportive of an interminable process which effectively means never/rarely deporting anyone.
  7. No effect on the base. “According to the Financial Times, a recent CNN survey found 88% of GOP voters still approve of Trump’s overall performance, despite the flap.”
  8. A couple of years ago my wife and I were in London and after a day out and about we settled in to watch the telly. Much to our delight it was the last night of Proms. You have much to preserve in British culture!
  9. Yea LC, it’s a morass. My original response to you was the hyperbolic Gestapo reference. That guy was out after 3 days. Hardly Gestapo like. That was a pretty chaotic situation at Glass House. Not surprising a mistake could be made what with all the violence against the federal officers. You also pulled out the old hates brown people card. That’s why I let you know so many of the people of color that I know don’t share your view. In fact when I hear white people living in suburban or bucolic environments posing as defenders of brown people it reminds me of what one of the guys who works in my building asked me and I quote “Why white women so stupid”?
  10. As long as we’re posting anecdotal cases, how about one that reflects a much more frequent occurrence as a result of the last administration surrender of the border. https://nypost.com/2025/07/20/us-news/off-duty-border-patrol-agent-shot-in-face-during-nyc-park-robbery-before-striking-back-and-wounding-one-of-his-attackers/?utm_campaign=iphone_nyp&utm_source=pasteboard_app “Mora entered the US illegally via the southern border under the Biden admin, the Department of Homeland Security said Sunday.” “At the time of his arrest for the shooting, Mora was wanted on kidnapping and weapons charges out of Massachusetts, sources said. He also had at least four arrests in New York City — where he was let go without bail each time, according to the sources. Mora was nabbed twice just days apart August 2024 for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman and threatening to kill another migrant with a machete.”
  11. Luis Leon indeed looks like a mistake. Happened under Obama; Gestapo? https://www.truthdig.com/articles/thousands-of-u-s-citizens-have-been-mistakenly-detained-or-deported/ “Between 2007 and 2015, more than 1,500 Americans spent time in immigration detention before the government acknowledged its mistake.”
  12. All the legal immigrants working in my building are Trumpsters and gasp they have brown, and wait for it, even black skin.
  13. On Sunday, Retes said, guards came to his cell and told him he was going to be released. “An officer walked me downstairs,” he recalled. “I signed a paper to get my stuff back. That was it. They let me go.” Very gestapo like.
  14. Gestapo: Arbitrary arrests Torture Extrajudicial killings Running networks of informants and surveillance Key role in the Holocaust ICE: Deportation of undocumented immigrants Investigating immigration fraud Enforcing laws related to customs and international trade
  15. Wow straw man much? Pedophilia is a different level of evil pathology. Even Change said he is almost certain Trump didn’t do anything wrong with regards to Epstein or as he logically points out we definitely would have heard about. No Trump was a just standard lewd philanderer. That’s bad enough, but not this unsubstantiated stuff you’re tossing around. Geez Louise!
  16. For that matter anybody against MAHA? RFK Jr wants to address synthetic chemicals and ultra processed additives in the food chain and shift toward whole unprocessed foods. Shouldn’t we address the regulatory capture food and agriculture companies enjoy in the face of obesity and chronic disease.
  17. He is addressing so many things in border control, energy, rare earths, etc. Also pharmaceuticals, raise your hand if you think it’s a good idea for a large percentage of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) sold in America to originate in China. China manufacturers a little under a quarter of drugs sold in the United States. A little under 50% of generic pharmaceuticals sold in America are manufactured in India. India sources about 70% of their APIs from China including antibiotics, statins, and anti ulcer meds. 70-95% of over the counter Ibuprofen, hydrocortisone, and acetaminophen are manufactured in China.
  18. “Open your ears; for which of you will stop The vent of hearing when loud Rumour speaks“ Btw, did you see Garret Wilson got paid, noice!
  19. Today’s Doomberg is free. The US is finally beginning to seriously address the Chinese dominance in rare earths processing. https://open.substack.com/pub/doomberg/p/how-its-done?r=9iue0&utm_medium=ios “The Defense Department will become the largest shareholder in rare-earth mining company MP Materials by buying $400 million of its stock and helping it build a new processing facility to sidestep the Chinese market, the company said Thursday. The deal underscores how far the Trump administration is willing to go to subsidize production of high-powered magnets, a field dominated by Chinese firms although the materials are critical for U.S. weapons systems. Las Vegas-based MP Materials owns the only rare-earth mine in the United States, at Mountain Pass, California, near the Nevada border. MP Materials CEO Jim Litinsky said the company aims to restore the full rare-earth supply chain in the U.S. and eliminate a ‘single point of failure’ in the country’s military-industrial base.”
  20. I also wanted to say that the greater than 3000 pages of his four volume biography of LBJ might seem arduous and reading it like drudgery, but given Caro’s beautiful and detailed writing it is the opposite. It is pleasurable. The same can be said for the greater than 1000 pages of The Power Broker. At the least, I recommend watching Turn Every Page.
  21. Guys listen to Alan Dershowitz https://www.wsj.com/opinion/the-inside-scoop-on-jeffrey-epstein-b0da1cbe?st=Q4jq8d&reflink=article_copyURL_share “Open records show an acquaintance between Epstein and Mr. Trump many years ago. That relationship ended when Mr. Trump reportedly banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago, long before becoming president. I have seen nothing that would suggest anything improper or even questionable by Mr. Trump.” “Conspiracy stories attract readers, viewers and listeners. They are also fodder for political attacks. The Epstein case has generated more than its share of such theories, and there is nothing more annoying to gossip mongers than when stubborn facts (or the absence of facts) get in the way of a juicy theory. Sorry to disappoint you, but there is really nothing much to see here, beyond what has already been disclosed.”
  22. Wow, you described Robert Caro beautifully. My favorite author. Bumping into him on the street in New York was a thrill for me. He was so gracious telling my wife and I that we made his day. I have read his biographies on Robert Moses and the four volumes of LBJ. I am hoping for the fifth and final volume, but unfortunately he is getting old. Although long, they are well worth reading. The writer is amazing and the details unsurpassed. So many stick with me. In the Master of the Senate for instance he would sit down next to a Senator whose vote he needed, cross his big leg in front of the man, lightly tug his jacket lapel, then face to face virtually envelop the poor fellow who sat sunk in an easy chair, unable to escape. At a dinner party, he might yell out “Bird bring me another piece of pie”! While campaigning and making stops he would talk to crowds from the back of a train while the Yellow Rose of Texas played. When the train pulled away, the music still playing, he yelled out “Bobby turn off that yeller rose”! You really get to know the man. The theme of his biographies is the attainment and use of power. This argument is crafted over thousands of pages. You also get inside people these men were associated with and the times they lived in. Absolutely unique.
  23. Nailed it concisely.
  24. Your chart compares June 2025 to June 2024, whereas the statistics that I cited compared from February 2025. Increase native and decrease foreign born. So since you’re pointing out that a similar trend in foreign born employment from June 24 to 25, the fact that it decreased from February indeed suggests a change in the trend. Is this secondary to deportation? If there are less illegal migrants in the workforce, that might logically pressure wages up for the working class. You got me.
  25. I think 99.9% is high by some bit. Those that hope he fails utterly (in some fairness to them they believe his failure is to the good of how they view the country) would probably approach 25%. Just a guess. I agree with you that this board filled with rational capitalists would have a more flexible, objective capability. How much doubt is one comfortable with? I question everything.
