I’ll take that bet.

Google search: Military parades take place in other Western countries. France, for example, has the Bastille Day parade, which is one of the oldest in the world. Italy also holds a military parade to mark Republic Day. Other countries like Canada and Spain have military parades or participate in public events involving the military. I even saw that dictator Macron standing in a moving vehicle at the head of a marching army including tanks up the Champs Elysees. Even military jets, so scary.

Also Nok!

Just look at the California refinery situation to see how preposterous it can be. When Amazon was floating the idea for an additional headquarters in New York, not a single democrat thought it was a good idea. There were tax breaks on the order of $3B or so proposed. These Dems said that money could be better spent elsewhere, as though it was sitting in a bank account rather than that it would be generated by future economic activity. They completely missed all the future economic benefits including future tax dollars that would come in.

Maxine Waters: No violence Gavin Newsome: No phone call Interesting to see massive shift in legal immigrant support for Trumps deportation policy. Happy 250th anniversary of the US army on Saturday.

Throughout the game I was thinking well only three more games of basketball. Hah never doubt the Pacers.

Strand. When I moved to New York in pre internet days I bought the 1973 Encyclopedia Britannica there, which was the last year before the split into micropaedia and macropaedia.

Would love to linger there (and of course buy some books). Congratulations!

Btw, not defending our borders allowing >10 million to cross illegally couldn’t be more disrespectful to those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Did he pay tribute to those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice in his speech at Arlington?

I regretted that post and deleted it. You were too quick lol. He died tragically. Do you also think the greater per capita deaths of blacks in Jamaica at the hands of police are also racially motivated.

Statues of Washington, Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt have been removed and schools named after them changed.

They said all of the same bs about Meloni. Now in power 21/2 years. Sanest leader in Europe.

Coalition with AfD. Problem solved.

Just a quick google search showed US giving $2 billion to Sudan since 2023 and China giving $1.3 million in 2023. I think Cobf could easily out donate China.

People like us have seen our net worth cruise higher over the last few decades, while the people you are describing haven’t done so well. Maybe be the government representative from FEMA even bypassed their flood damaged home.

What we don’t see in this graphic is that 2% of Americans currently work in a factory. That 25% feel they would be better off if they worked in a factory represents quite a lot of demand for this type of work. 25% of the 160 million workforce would be 40 million. At its peak the U.S. never even had 20 million working in the manufacturing sector. https://open.substack.com/pub/understandingamerica/p/youre-so-vain-you-probably-think?r=9iue0&utm_medium=ios

China has flouted international goodwill for 25 years. They have stolen IP, restricted or banned foreign internet companies (but sure like having TicTok in the West), engaged in a host of trade barrier actions, used forced labor in ethnic concentration camps, etc. A good portion of the rest of the World may just take this opportunity to realign trade more favorably. Maybe we see China FAFO?

Thank you for your response. Just adding the top ten dollar amounts in imports & exports, there is about $700B going out. While it does seem extreme and unrealistic to aim for complete trade balance, I hope we can move some good bit away from “squanderville.”

Seems like very relevant data here, yet no response from the frequent posters. Surely it would be in the long term interest for the U.S. to reindustrialize in these products.

Oren Cass offers the logic behind tariff strategy. https://open.substack.com/pub/understandingamerica/p/happy-liberation-day-to-those-who?r=9iue0&utm_medium=ios We may be going back to friendly terms with our Canadian brothers. Note no 10% baseline global tariff on Canada and Mexico. Once the issues upon which specific tariffs are resolved there will be free trade in North America. On the other hand, look to increased decoupling of the U.S. economy from China.

Why do you assume jobs won’t come back? After all, quotas in the 1980s incentivized the Japanese to invest in new automobile factories in the South.

He is talking about modern liberalism which seeks an ever bigger, more controlling government. You are quoting a definition of classical liberalism, you know libertarianism.

“Hate bailing out Europe again” “loath European free loading” Nobody said anything about hating Europe. They are frustrated with the feckless EU ruling political class. Political differences don’t equate to hate. I guess these days for many it increasingly does.

I had subscribed to The Economist for years. I seem to remember that they were fairly sanguine about large numbers of migrants coming into Europe and were quite impressed with Merkel. I guess it’s hard to know ahead of time what is first order thinking.
