  1. I have a friend who is facing this dilemma - he works for wells and wants to know if he should liquidate his WFC shares to contribute to his mortgage: Seems like on a 15/yr mortgage wells would just have to return 5% or so a year (dividends plus share appreciation) for him to be better off not touching his 401k?
  2. If you pull up a S&P 2008 to 2014 it seems to almost the weight holding seems to share some correlation with movements in SPY albeit delayed...?
  3. I would counter with: If you were an AAPL equityholder, how would you benefit from cash of $142.77/share?
  4. Thanks for all the feedback, I feel better about the switch now! ;D
  5. Why do you want to dual boot? Mainly for the ease of using customized shortcuts when working with excel. It would be my first mac pro laptop device
  6. Hmm I see, do you have some firsthand experience or knowledge about the practicality of such - or would it be much better to carry the ole' thinkpad when anticipating work-travel?
  7. Does anyone regularly do office work on their mac/use their Mac primarily as a workhorse as opposed to leisure? Any programs for dual booting they can recommend? Mainly I'm looking at a mac pro and only want to carry around one such device when I travel.
  8. I have an interesting query - I've read that Mecham was a dropout who often stayed up til 3 AM devouring investment related reading materials and left school (anyone know which school?) to focus on launching his fund. But then the article cites his Wasatch Security boss mentioning that he was a mediocre senior security analyst before he left the firm to start his own company. What exactly is his background?
  9. This is actually particularly concerning - was there any way to tell that financials were on the brink? Low P/E and a rosy outlook don't seem inherently telling. Did you really have to dive deep to figure it out? I was holding some financials in early 2007, and I remember my portfolio rising 40% in some 3-4 months. I lucked out and liquidated because I felt things were moving too fast -but it was more of a gut call. I don't think I'd be able to replicate the timing... Course my portfolio then was peanuts so it wasn't life altering either.
  10. Unless you're talking about his specialized fund... http://www.businessinsider.com/whoa-kyle-basss-performance-really-is-that-disastrous-2012-5 Yikes! Big drawdown since inception...
  11. I always figured he was just a permabear, 2006-2009 was 340% or so, no idea how he's fared since then. Might be able to fish out a newer letter: http://www.marketfolly.com/2009/03/kyle-bass-hayman-capital-letter-to.html Personally, in his niche I prefer Hugh Hendry...
