  1. Don't know if you agree with the JNJ discounted cash flow analysis or not, but why is he using a 20 year timeline? Can you use less of a timeline? I used the same growth rate (~15%) for 5 years and I get JNJ's value to be $35 bucks a share. WTH- What if I only have a 5 year timeline? (I don't want to hold for 20 years) Do I have use a 20 year scenario? Please advise. Feeling confused, -M
  2. Jack River got me running to this site: http://www.fwallstreet.com/blog/4.htm But these are just the basics, I guess. I like this site a lot. Thanks for making me think critically, Jack.
  3. Thanks for the good wishes Parsad. so excited! Hey, JackRiver. I'm making the mistake of not understanding the worth of it and buying anyway. I still have to read those books that people recommend. In my mind, I think I would be okay if I follow buffett's picks. Thing about USB is that its an old-fashioned bank. They are very conservative and shouldn't have fallen with WFC and the rest. Plus the management is great. That's what I've been looking at. Just buy great businesses at great prices, look for modest managers, etc. I'm curious Jack, how would you value USB? I can't really break it up into numbers. :(
  4. Guys I got promoted at work!!! Yay. making 50% more base salary plus commission. Haha! even more to invest now!!
  5. I'm tired of waiting for the market to go down... I just doubled-down on my USB stake today. We'll see how it goes..
  6. Meaning.... GE and DOW will follow in the other's footsteps, or they could just be the outlier losers of BRK's 2008 portfolio. Who knows? I don't even know that much about DOW expect that Buffett has always looked down on "complicated chemical operations." Maybe its not that complicated? Full disclosure: I'm long GE and looking to get long-er. Immelt seems like an awesome guy, one of my favorite ceos.
  7. Ya guys seriously. Everyone's like pissed off or something lately. have you guys been short the market since March 6? :D Lighten up..lol
  8. I only own HUN... Hopefully will pick up DOW at single digit..:) Oh guys. My fav bank is US Bank b/c of the ceo. He's awesome. Real funny, humble, smart guy. If you haven't seen him, check out this presentation: LOL @ 6:50 :D
  9. What do you think of HUN or DOW? I have been holding HUN since 2.97. It's been going up almost everyday lol. P/E is skewed however due to the failed merger and cash they got from there. I believe Buffett has DOW warrants at 40 bucks. It's trading like 17 right now. JPM...I officially a hater of this company. No idea why. Maybe b/c of its 60 P/E and CNBC hypes them up all the time. Did you catch the Tilson interview though? "That 50 trillion portfolio of derivatives scares us, we want to stick with simple Wells Fargo" (50T is that a typo!?!?)
  10. CRM is sticky? I don't know guys... It's deff a great model. Even people in my company are trying to switch to it (waste of money if you ask me). I don't know if its better than MSFT, but then again I don't really like MSFT without Gates anyway. I like Oracle a lot though. That's probably the stickiest I've seen. Ellison is a killer just like Gates was/is.
  11. Who were the dudes he was chasing? Fuld and Schwartz?
  12. Guys, check out CRM, salesforce.com. It's trading at like 114 P/E. WTH is going on? lol. I like verizon, but I wonder if its a company you can trust to be around, no idea. Warren would have bought it lol, but he didn't
  13. freaking awesome dude! SICK
  14. NRG does look cheap...still just on a P/E basis. Wasn't this a Berkshire holding?
  15. hmm. I feel like this is not the time to buy small stuff that I understand, isn't this a once in a lifetime opty to buy great businesses cheaply? I just got out of college last year and I thought it would just a great opty to buy what Buffet bought/buys at cheaper than he got it. Can't I just learn the details during the next bull market? lol Thanks for all your advice guys, appreciate it. Gotta study both accounting and intelligent investor.
  16. Thanks guys, will check out this book...
  17. That's the big question. How do you determine the intrinsic value of a business? This confuses the hell out of me lol. Buffett likes WFC at this level- its like 26 times earnings! Isn't that supposed to be expensive? COP doesn't have cash, but he likes it. I'm confused partner24. I have no idea where to start to do this "magic" calculation of under-valued vs. over-valued. hahah. Are there books or anything you guys would recommend? Right now, I'm just looking at P/E and past stock prices before the boom. I figure that great companies will at least be worth what they were in '01. And I like to see how much cash they have. I like GE, Metlife, and Swiss - Re. thanks bro and let me know.
  18. good call guys. someone recommended ICO at 1 something. It's like 3 something. I'm sorry for disagreeing with you guys. You are awesome!
  19. yep looks like buffett is out of gas. I'm kinda disappointed that he didn't put a lot more down on USB and WFC. 13m shares is a lou simpson number.
  20. wants to know about astrid? lol what a waste of time of access to buffett. I'm still not done reading snowball. didn't like stuff about buffett's family and how he hated his mom, ignored his kids, etc (all of which became failures essentially). it's funny, kinda puts a sad side to buffett's 24/7 excited, giddy personality. it seems like Anne didn't really show much of the father in Buffett to his children but did show how Buffett's father (howard buffett) made him everything he was. Kinda sucks, ey?
  21. cool dude. I love how is so specific. Munger is the man! I wish buffett would be as specific as that. He kinda hints at the stuff he likes, instead of bluntly saying "yes, I would buy this at this price."
  22. what do you guys think about comm. real estate falling? That can't be priced in right?
  23. Really not a chance? Remember WFC's low was not 11, but 7.50. GE's low was 5.71. People called the bottom last october and then other people called the bottom in november. Actually the bottom for GS, MS was in Nov, so you might be right. I will start nibbling on WFC at 13, USB at 11, and GE under 10. I own GE at 10 already, and USB at 8.60.
  24. Wrong, wrong, I DID Buy USB @ 8.62, just didn't buy at bulk, and at 11 but I sold. Bought BAC at 6 and 7 and sold at 14.88. Trust me. I will have the courage to jump in. I'm busy saving cash right now....
