Crip in one of the points Sam brought up at the dinner:

 

 

"When considering investments, Sam stressed that a strong balance sheet is imperative in this environment. Quality is vital and cannot be compromised upon".

 

I'm curious if he mentioned their investment in LVLT and how this jives with his comment above.

[Fairfax 2008 Year-end Results (February 19, 2008)]

Another aspect adding to the '08 CR for FFH consolidated is that Advent only reported results from Sept. when FFH took control, so

the losses from  Ike and Gustav were concentrated and not averaged over the whole yr. of Advents results.
